He's just a consultant to the athletic department, yes? He's not going to be the coach, is he? That's a lot of money for a small school to pay a consultant.

Agreed. Good for him. Although, that seems like an awful lot of money for what I'm sure will be not much work. The real question is is that money worth it and will it equate to more victories or would the money have been better spent on equipment and facilities.

It's probably not about victories. He'll be gone before they play one game.

It's about generating interest and excitement. In other words, it's about money. They need to muster boosters and establish a base of season-ticket holders. Who better to aid in the that than NC-winning coach and state icon?

I am sure his presence at particular "events" is as valuable to them as any "consulting" he may be doing.

Of course it is about victories, that brings in the money. However, I get your point about generating excitement. I was looking at it from a pure football standpoint and how he can help build the program and wasn't looking at it from a fundraising perspective.

the best.
I wish Fulmer had never left UT.
Bet my bottom dollar we would be in the mess we are in right now.
Given some time, he would have turned things around.
Show me a coach that has done more for UT other than the General?.

Oh boy, this won't end well for you. Prepare to be insulted in 3,2,1...

I might be insulted but, the truth will set me free.
I still say that Phil Fulmer is the best coach TN has ever had.
With one exception - Neyland.

Don't disagree with anything you said. However, I think we can all agree that he was not the same (or at least the program wasn't the same) at the end of his tenure. Of course, we would all welcome his last year's record now.

I'd like to see as AD at UT! Probably better than what we have. At least his heart is in it and he knows the program very well.

I am a huge fan of fulmer and would fight for him if one of you children disrespected this man to my face

However

This salary is grossly too high.

That athletic department is scraped for cash and its a shame a man that doesn't need that kind of pay is being compensated so handsomely for little work
