another poster kind of hinted on this and It may be silly but i was thinking about how excited our fan base was when we got Pearl. Even the posters who are unhappy with him had to be happy with him at some point and the way he turned around the program and started getting us into the tournament with a good seeding every year.

I know thier diffrent sports but did fulmers career hurt bruce pearl. Think about this how many people have posted on the nation that fulmer should have been gone years before he was fired? With kiffins arrival and the way he turned around JC, landed BB, and took us to a bowl game with this crap fulmer left behind, Are more and more people wishing we would have got rid of Fulmer years ago, Thus thier calling for Pearls head because they don't want us to make the same mistake?

I think pearl has turned this program around and got us in the right direction, But i could see how the people that don't agree would want us to move on Now, rather than wasting season after season like we did after 2001 when fulmer couldn't take quite possibly the best team we've had at TN to an SECCG victory.

I may be way off base on this one but i can see how peoples attitudes have changed since we got kiffin and people i know personally NOW wish we had fired fulmer years ago, so maybe in a way Fulmer, along with kiffins success, has hurt pearl because as a fan base we are less patient and less forgiving

Seriously? You've got to be kidding.

why you don't think that its even possible that our fan base is less patient with our coaches after we let fulmer just sit back and get a big contract to be mediocre?

ok pearl has done some good things at tennessee no doubt like hes got us scotty hopson and now tobias harris but if he cant develope them into nba type players and is lazy with them and lets them do whatever the heck they want then were gonna have proplems.

They may be similar in the fact they both have had great talent and seem to fall short on getting the most out of it.

No way possible. Your basically saying that firing Fulmer changed our mentality of how we achieve excellence in our sports programs. To even compare football to basketball is crazy. Pearl is catching heat because of the dumb things he does (or in most cases, doesn’t do). When he arrived at Tennessee, he provided our fan base with an exciting style of play, showed emotion, intensity, and completely grabbed the local community by the balls with his marketing and gimmicks. He painted his body to cheer on the Lady Vols, defended our football program, and showed 100% dedication to Tennessee in general. He goes to some sweet 16’s, owns Florida’s national championship teams, splits with Kentucky, beats an “unbeatable” Memphis to grab the #1 ranking in their gym, and recruits surprisingly well. People are pissed at Pearl because he continues to use the same scheme and game plan that he’s used since day 1. He has absolutely no control over his team, refuses to develop any type of half court offense, and lives and dies by the 3 and transitional baskets from a pressure defense. He doesn’t have a plan B. It either works (and we win) or we get killed and beaten by far less talented teams. He hasn’t produced a single PG capable of leading our team and his style of play and mentality basically sucks in March. His lack of game adjustments is painful to watch and he doesn’t utilize the skills his players possess correctly. His text book substitutions are sometimes ridiculous and utterly stupid. I promise, none of the things I’ve mentioned or forgot has nothing to do with Fulmer. Pearl raised the bar on basketball at the University of Tennessee and we, as fans, want to see him earn those paychecks and act like he has a lick of sense instead of underachieving with unbelievable talent.

examples of the words "their", "there", and "they're" used in sentences:

UT fans are happy that their Vols are in a bowl game.

There are many fans who are planning on going to the game.

They're saying that the UT/VT game should be a good one.

you said "no way possible" and then just wrote a entire post backing the OP.

and yes, I think a fanbase that sat "patiently" by while Fulmer did his thing has that in the back of their minds when it comes to the basketball program.

At this point, the basketball program is in much better shape than the latter years of Fulmer's stay on the job. We have never had a losing season, never failed to make the tournament, never won less than 20 games. This is not a good comparison at all. I'm very unhappy with the performance Saturday, with the consistant lack of a half-court offense, and a team that only shows intensity with certain games. However, to compare Fulmers last years to the current status of basketball is foolish.

I don't think anyone's comparing the football program of 2008 to the current bball program. I think most are just wondering if we're in a place like we were in 1999-2002 with football.

Poor grammar puts the validity of the post in question. That's all. Dictionaries are cheap. I keep one handy and use it if I have any doubt on my spelling. Makes me look smarter than I really am. :good!:

I find that if a word doesn't look quite right---it probably isn't. No offense intended---improvement is not a bad thing.

I don't think anyone is comparing Pearl to Fulmer. I think most of us have just realized that Pearl is not as good as a coach as we once thought.

How has he been lazy with them? I agree that he's not riding them like he did his first 2 seasons, but he's still on them. He made the players we had his first 2 years better. What I have yet to see is if he can develop guys with more talent.

I think about the only similarity between Pearl and Foolmore is that Pearl may have gotten a bit too complacent, much like Foolmore did as well.

There is also part of me that just wonders if Pearl knows how to handle the attitudes/egos of higher-tier recruits.
