I'm an "apologist,"--I wouldn't use that term, but you did, so I won't argue-- and I agree, to some degree, with just about everything he said. The SEC is a beast, and mediocrity won't cut it. Our record this year was just a hair below mediocre, and that is unacceptable. The special teams were only special in the "nice word for retarded" sense for most of the year, and the offense was just plain lousy when not playing a school from Kentucky. I don't think our talent level is mediocre, and I don't think our coaching staff, especially with the recent upgrades, is mediocre. Still, any more .500 years will hurt our talent and might change my opinion of the coaches.
But...(you know it was coming, didn't you  )
I don't think you can hang all of Fulmer's wins over the last few years on luck and not give a lot of this year's losses to luck as well (personally, I don't think luck had a lot to do with either the wins or losses, but that's just me.) I don't think the answer to our problems is to bash, or worse fire, Fulmer. I don't think the answer is to lynch our probable starting quarterback, a freshman all-America last year before coming unglued as a soph, in favor of someone who has never seen take a college snap until at least evaluating them in spring practice.
The weaknesses the original poster spoke of have been addressed by the coaching changes. I understand why going 10-3 in consecutive years would be a hinderance to making wholesale changes in the program.
All that being said, I'm hopeful about next year. The talent will be there, and I believe the revamped coaching staff can develop them into a conference contender. The schedule sets up pretty nicely. And I always seem to be hopeful in the offseason because I've got faith that the school, coaches, and players are going to correct the problems that caused this year's disappointment.
I don't see why I need to appologize for that :hi:
