What did the VN think of his abbreviated commentary about the zebras? I told you all on the in game posts the Conference/Refs wouldn't let Tn win the game and they didn't. That interference call against Fellows on 3rd and 14 was embarrassing.

I thought Fellows hit him right after the ball arrived, I always thought pass interference had to occur before the ball arrived.

I wish politics could have stayed out of it, just let the teams play, call it the same both ways, and let the cookie crumble.

The SEC wanted AU to win, even though they won't go to the title game. That to me makes no sense whatsoever, so just play the damn game.

The BCS wanted us to win to get their :moon2: out of a sling.

Plus the zeb's missed a clear Aub holding on that play. However, we had our chances and didn't cash in.

Did anyone actually see the hold on Houston's TD run?

Just the refs :p

Actually, it looked like a slight jersey grab after Houston went by. The first part of the block was solid. No need for the grab but it was minor. They called us on everything.

OTOH, that TD pass might have hit the ground.

BHAM you know what it's like to hear Bammers complain about refs so I'm not going down that road.

The hold was on a receiver (Hannon?) and it occurred about 3-4 yards behind Houston when he was about 5 yards downfield. His arms were definitely outside the frame of the defender, so by definition it was a hold . . . the thing is, it happened behind the play and it was the type of thing that happens on every play. Hannon was just unlucky that he got caught.

I promise Bama still thinks they are great :dlol:....I get tired of walking to class and seeing those stupid t-shirts that say "got twelve?".....And all the talk about Bear...I promise bear is buried in the same Elmwood cematary that my grandfather is unless they went and dug him up?

As posted before - my idea is a "Got Twelfth" shirt celebrating Bama's finish in the 2003 SEC All Sports Competition.

From the game reports I've read, the officiating was terrible, but the fact is that a team that was supposed to be dominated went out and kept the game unpredictable for 57+ minutes.

SEC officials have sucked all yr but they weren't the ones letting the WR run free or jumping offsides(twice) to keep AU drives alive

Officiating sucked big time..... AU fan in front of us made mention to my husband
they'd won cause they brought their own refs... it was quite obvious the decision who was going to win was made before the game started..... We don't have a
defense.... they tried to make a come back but oh well..... Bunches of AU fans were in our TENN. section cause of people selling their tickets to them... I had a problem with that but then I'm only a small person in that huge fish bowl of persons......

GO VOLS.....
GO BIG ORANGE....

I am not one to complain about the refs, but I am going to do it now. They were HORRIBLE. It was very clear that they had an agenda last night. They made some bad calls against us and almost none against Auburn. I know that Auburn is supposed to be a good team, but you can't tell me that their play was flawless! Oh well, props to Gerald Riggs! Even though the pro Auburn announcers didn't talk about him much doesn't mean that he didn't do anything.

Taking the bammer plunge here...I totally agree with you. I will take this a step further. We came in with the reputation of having a young and inexperienced defensive backfield. After the zebs made the first holding call it was 'Katie bar the door ' from that point on. If a call was marginally possible to make against us, it was made. No marginal calls were made against AU. Also, I agree with Blackledge...the TD catch was good.

Last night was my birthday and the SEC did a great job of ruining it. The officiating was horrible. But look at it like this. We got a call in the Florida game and plenty of calls in Vandy and Kentucky. My point is the SEC and all of college football have an agenda to see certaing teams win. And as long as money and politics are involved, which they always will be, this is what is going to happen. The good thing is, having Auburn go undefeated may push us closer to some sort of playoff. Which is what we ultimately need in this sport. VOL FAN FOR LIFE NO MATTER HOW BAD WE GET SCREWED OR HOW BAD OUR COACHES ARE. AND THEY ARE PRETTY BAD. :rocks:

You know, just once I would like to see Fulmer on the sideling disagreeing with the Refs. I know that it doesn't do any good to argue with them, but I get so sick of seeing him over looking like he has taken a bottle xanax and just standing there.

Coach knew going in that we would have to play 10 times better than AU to win the game... it's the nature of the animal, being such a big underdog. Someone used to say... I think it was General Neyland "If you didn't play well enough to beat both the other team AND the refs, you didn't deserve the W anyway." That says it to me... the secondary lost the game, by reputation, or poor play, however you want to put it. It was a valiant effort and we should be proud. I'm wearing a Vol shirt to work tomorrow in B'ham! Screw those bammers!

That is true. I am proud of Riggs for making the pontiac and the mini-van look like average RB's last night. I hope that he can build off of last night. I thought that he looked like Jamal on that 80 yard TD run, just a little faster.

For sure... he hit the line at full speed, and never let up! Way to go for the O-line opening up the hole.

If only the secondary had shown up!!! Too many big plays against 'em. Oh well.

GO GRJ!

You do have to wonder how Auburn throws 35 times and had 2x as many offensive plays as us but not one holding call? Hmmm

I think our secondary will be much improved next year. I hope that Jason Allen stays for his senior year. Banks would be great back there with his speed and his hands. Hefney and Fellows have great potential and Stewart should be healthy. I have not written Corey Campbell off either. I think that he is just having a bad year all together.

Yep, they were holding too. Some were very obvious! I think that there was an agenda last night for the refs.

I watched the game on my TIVO, which allows me the courtesy of rewinding and replaying in slow motion. I must say, that most of the penalties called on Tennessee (and not called on Auburn) were obviously poor calls in slow motion.

I'll skip over the other calls and get right to the meat of the game. The Vols tied just the game 21-21. Auburn is staring at a 3rd-and-11 at their own 33. The Vols stop them to force a punt.... but wait.... the official calls Fellows for pass interence. The replay showed that it was in fact a nicely timed hit and NOT pass interence. Auburn scores on the next play to go up 28-21.

Tennessee takes the kickoff, still with some momentum after having scored 14 points in the 2nd half. However, 3 penalties in 4 plays pushed the Vols back to their own 7-yard line and a 2nd-and-23. The biggest was calling a hold on a 45-yard pass completion to Robert Meachem.

The Vols punt, and the Vols hold Aubie to a field goal and 31-21 lead. The Vols rush back down the field and pull back within 31-28 on Gerald Riggs 9-yard run.

O' my gosh, it's close again... time to pull out the yellow hankys. Or actually in this case... hold on to them... Turk McBride, for the 2nd time in the series, touched the offensive lineman. By rule, the play does not count if their is contact prior to the snap. Aubie scores a 42-yard touchdown on the free play.

I will say, however, that had the Vols been able to play better defensively... ie not giving up the big plays, that they would have had a much better chance of winning the game.... considering that Aubie's 2 touchdowns in the 2nd half came on 53yd and 43yd pass plays.
