1993, Fulmer's 1st year as head coach, we scored more points than any other time in our history. We scored more points that year than our 1995, 1996 and 1998 teams. We even gave up less points per game than we did in 1995, 1996 or 1998. But our record was worse in 1993. So, sometimes the ball bounces your way. You have to get lucky to win a NC. (We know)

Call it an anomoly, a very tough schedule, whatever. With the same coaching staff and the same players we had last year, we are scoring 2 less touchdowns a game.

We are also scoring the least amount of points per game than we have since 1959. That's 45 years.

"But our record was worse in 1993"

Get your facts right:

1993 we were 10-2-0 and had a school record 471 points. We lost to Florida and Penn State. (depends if you are tide fan or not) we actually tied Alabama, but bama had to forfeit due to playing a nnelgible player.

1994 we were 8-4 during Mannings freshman year but didnt have the points we had in 1993.

Huh??? What does 1994 have anything to do with this thread? We scored 484 points in 1993, not 471. It was the most points we ever scored. We did tie Bama, so really we were 9-2-1. But my point was that we scored the most points ever in Fulmer's 1st year and our record was worse than it was in 1998, 1995 and 1996, despite giving up less points per game in 1998, 1995 and 1996.

It doesn't help that the offense is still unsettled at quarterback... Gerald Riggs and the offensive line are not living up to expectations... and the Vols have played 3 games on the road against top 5 teams and 1 more top 5 team at home. That is the reason that the Vols are still ranked at 3-3. A bad team would already be 2-4 and gotten blown out in at least 2 of those games. As it stands, the Vols were down 13-7 in the 4th quarter to Florida, 13-7 in the 4th quarter to Georgia, and tied 3-3 in the 4th quarter against Alabama. Even if the preseason expectations were not so high, the Vols would be ranked for playing even with so many highly ranked teams.

If the players have not gone psycho, I fully expect them to lay the wood to South Carolina this week.... and then another tough battle on the road against Notre Dame. Then win the final 3 games against Memphis, Vanderbilt and Kentucky. The game against ND determines whether the Vols finish 8-3 or 7-4.

This record was according to utsports.com They did not include the 13 points in the bowl game. Only the overall record was counted in the stats. However they have changed the rule to include bowl stats wit the seasonal record. However it is not retroactive to 1993. We are also given a victory according to the NCAA for punishment for the use of an inelgible player by alabama.
I stand corrected however. I misread what you were saying. However the facts above are correct and you can check them out at utsports.com and it is 471 with a 10-2 record.

It was too retroactive in 1993. How could they not count stats from a Bowl game, but include it in a W/L record? Here's the FACTS.
