John Brice, sprots editor of the Maryvill Daily Times, writes...
Fulmer's prints all over loss
2005-11-06
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- This one had Phillip Fulmer's fingerprints all over it.
In fact, it was Tennessee Football. Turnovers. Special teams breakdowns. Penalties at the most inopportune times. Brain cramps. And a glaring inability to finish the game.
The same things that derailed Tennessee's year -- and have caused train-wreck five-loss seasons in two of the past four years -- were again apparent Saturday in an embarrassing display of how not to finish a game.
It was more than Notre Dame's 41-21 victory, a fourth-consecutive loss for Tennessee that extended an already lengthening stretch of futility during the worst of Fulmer's 13 years.
