Key Senators Raise Funds on Wall Street as They Rewrite Financial Rules - WSJ.com

Democrats have long received the lion's share of campaign donations from Wall Street. President Barack Obama received nearly $15 million in the 2008 presidential campaign from the finance industry, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. Republicans have noted that Goldman Sachs employees gave Mr. Obama nearly $1 million during the campaign, making the company his second-largest source of donations. Mr. Obama hasn't said if he would return the Goldman donations in the wake of recent allegations against the company.

Of the $34 million given by the securities and investment industry in the 2010 election cycle, 62% has gone to Democrats and 37% to Republicans, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Are you implying that Goldman Sachs were buying influence? The Obama Administration is investigating GS for fraud and corruption so that influence peddling doesn't seem to be working out for them too well.

You have to remember he believes the gov't is righteous......

me thinks goldman is just fine with obama after he agreed to pay them $20 bil from aig despite the fact they were going to take 30 cents on the dollar days earlier. a $10 mil fine or whatever it's going to be is peanuts in comparison.

Won't have any argument for me................. I just get ticked when people honestly believe gov't is not involved in the mess...... I don't care what hack political party is in power.

That little doozy is awesome. This sham is just pushing the reform, as if enormous losses don't change operation in an industry bent on profit.

i fail to see how creating a fund specifically to bail people out encourages them to not do things that woudl get them bailed out. it's kind of like arguing i'm going to be more careful going dirt biking if i have health insurance than i would if i don't.

There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that the Democrats are as in bed with banking and finance as are the Republicans. There is no doubt in my mind that, whatever the rhetoric, and whatever vague b.s. kumbhaya consumer protection agency nonsense gets passed, when push comes to shove and its time to draft the actual regulations, they will have very little actual force to them.

And that is true regardless of who is in the WH or runs the Congress.

i'm confused. what about the outrage of joe six over the democrats actions?

If you refer to the Tea Partiers, I've already said I share the sentiment of those that call themselves TP members because they are frustrated with politics and business as usual.

But that group seems to be a small sliver of the Tea Party movement and there is a certain naiivete on the part of the rest as to thinking that the Democrats are a bigger problem in this respect than the Republicans.

Not to mention the sidetracking on guns, abortion, Christianity as national religion, etc.,

I daresay that the percentage of Americans who believe that the government is far too cozy with industry ,and that government cannot be trusted in this respect, is about 95 %. Its when the TPers try to haul in all of the other social garbage that I think they lose most people.
