'18 GA LB JJ Peterson (Tennessee signee)

look at Bama's roster. They started two guys over 300lbs and their light weight was 288.

We have three guys over 300, Tuttle, Johnson, Crosby. we have one other player over 280, Picou. the rest of our DEs are 250ish. Even our "big" DEs are 260-270 range.

right now we don't have the numbers to play either imo, but going 3-4 requires some size we don't have.

I think we will definitely be multiple this year (3-4/4-3) so it won't be a full waste, and for many guys it is going to take some time to change their bodies around to play a 3-4 full time(ish).

Kongbo can easily get up to 280-285 by the season. I'd expect him and Tuttle at DE and Johnson at NG.

Matt Butler is another guy who should 280-290 by season. Him, Picou, and Crosby should provide depth.

Phillips is listed at 263. Should have no issue being 270-275 and competing with Kongbo for the weakside spot.

Add in the guys we sign and possibly a juco DT, defensive line isn't that bad. It's pretty decent actually. Corner and oline are our real issues.

What you have there isn’t an ideal 3-4. But we don’t have an ideal 4-3 set either. We’re recruiting linebackers to play NOW, also...not to get Chris Weathered’ed. Plug and mix and learn and plug and fight.

Is Kongbo going to be effective at any weight is the question I want answered.

Yeah I heard something about it on TV. Did you know that a large number of our our roster was recruited by 3-4 teams? Many by Pruitt himself?

Who are we playing at NT? I mean I can see us having the ends covered somewhat, possibly even LBers depending on how we close with this class. Are you putting Tuttle there with his injury history or just a warm body like Crosby?

Why do you say Crosby is just a warm body? He was a 4* top 250 player was he not? Let's see what he can do before e write him off.

We don’t have an Alabama or UGA level NT...neither do other teams that compete using the alignment. There will be shifts and compensations to be made but that fits the 4-3 scenario also. What TWO SEC level 4-3 DT’s do we have on the roster?

Crosby would be my fullback. He's very round and fast. Was a RB in high school so he would have a knack for picking out the holes to lead the back through.

“Everybody up here is family. It's all together,” Peterson said. “That's what stuck out. Everything here is huge with their facilities. “When I went to the game, everyone was screaming my name.”

Peterson, who's a prospect of few words, said what got his attention the most was his future teammates. “The program is fantastic. Everything is good. The players are what surprised me. Everyone is together,” Peterson said.

At the end of the day, the difference maker for the Vols is their head coach Jeremy Pruitt.

My question is, with D.Taylor most likely being an OLB, do they have Phillips / Kongbo drop weight to be an OLB or add weight to be a DL?

I lean that way too. Of course we have Austin Smith who likely is an OLB as well...I guess the curiosity is around Phillips. As a lighter player in HS he was explosive.

Yeah good question on Phillips. Don't think he'll get big enough to play DE in this system. LB would be my guess.
