All of these other schools are passing on him. Too built and athletic to be a safety. We continue to benefit from other teams passing on every recruit that seems to like us.From other boards, it seems some other schools have backed off recruiting Shady. Anyone know what’s up with that? Do they know he’s all-Vol or what?
Yes, that is what happens. We can only recruit cast-offs. We are like the replacements. You made the same astute assessment in the Travis Smith thread. All of these other schools are passing on him. He brings versatility as he is slated for safety but could grow into a linebacker which is something Tim Banks loves about his game. Either way, Tennessee feels like if they get this one across the finish line, they are getting a real future contributor on defense.
Imagine if we had competent coaching in the secondary with all of that? Can you imagine a Defense where we have Boo, Gibson, Matthews, Gass and Shady roaming in the backend! The thought of that almost makes me feel sorry for opposing receivers, but not really!
Not to mention the guys like Carter and Telander also!
You’ll be surprised how competent a team full of stud athletes that were specifically recruited for their fit in a system can make a coach. Also, Heupel’s staff prioritized things correctly. They targeted elite pass rushers first. Now they’re rounding out the secondary.Imagine if we had competent coaching in the secondary with all of that?
