2. A kid from the south would rather play in Knoxville than Pittsburgh
Or Jimmy isn't solid.....You’d think. But there was a UT commit that bailed during the dumpster fire ‘17 season. One of the few Butch commits that Pruitt actually went in house with trying to keep. He ended up signing with Pitt. Name escapes me.
Kind of an odd offer in that I wouldn’t expect us to take another receiver based on how the team/class is built. Staff knows best obv. Must see something they like.
That or they’re trying to get their foot in the door at that school.

Pitt should worry. Great school. Awful game day experience. NFL stadium off campus.Pitt is worried he's going to decommit.

It was all but over. Jaylon Barden was set to be a Pittsburgh Panther. Then, Tennessee called. “I was counting down the days to sign. I was 1,000 percent Pitt, but now I need to make a decision,” Barden said. “They came on real late in the process, so there’s a little different feel now.” The 2020 receiver has been committed to Pittsburgh since April and really hasn’t wavered. Barden (6-0, 175), however, is intrigued with playing closer to home. “Pittsburgh was just something that came up and felt right. They have a good fanbase and do well in the ACC, but it’s so far from home. It’s been a dream to hear from Tennessee because I’m from the south and grew up on SEC football. “I need to check Tennessee out.” The three-star from Macon, Ga. will have that opportunity this weekend when Tennessee hosts Vanderbilt for the regular season finale. Barden announced on Twitter Monday night that the Vols gave him an offer.
UT special teams coordinator and inside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer was on the other end of the phone. “He said they needed receivers because they will lose a lot this year. He said they need a guy who can stretch the field vertically who is a good route runner.” Barden was clocked at a 4.51-second 40-yard dash earlier this year at the Nike Open but said he trimmed it down to a 4.49, unofficially, laser timed at his high school. With Sherrer leading the charge in recruiting, the prospect is also expected to compete in the return game on special teams as well. “Other than receiver, I played a little corner this year, but they want me to return punts. I’ve returned a couple of long punts this season and been really close to taking one back.” Outside of Sherrer, Barden hasn’t spoken to any other Tennessee coaches. His father has spoke with Vols receiver coach Tee Martin on the phone, however. The Georgia product plans to meet them all this weekend.
-VQ“I really don’t know how the conversation went with coach Martin. I should have asked my dad [laughs], but I look forward to speaking with all of them here in the next few days. “I think Coach [Jeremy] Pruitt is a good coach, but honestly, my decision will come down to playing time. I want to play as a true freshman. That will be my main reason when picking a school.” Barden has been offered by 17 programs but noted Pittsburgh, Kentucky and Tennessee are hot on him now. The receiver grew up a Georgia football fan and a fan of the Southeastern Conference as a whole. “I grew up a Georgia fan because I’m a Georgia boy and it’s all Georgia down here, but I have a feel for every team in the conference. I don’t hate any teams. Florida is Georgia’s biggest rival, but I don’t hate them. I just like the teams I’m used to seeing down here in the south.” This weekend will be only the second visit for Barden this year as the current Panther commit visited Pittsburgh back in February. The receiver’s high school career is over as Westside High School was bounced in the first round of the Georgia state playoffs. Barden finished the campaign with over 1,200 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns.
