One of the most impressive players at Tennessee's camp on Thursday was a diminutive wide receiver yet to start his sophomore season. Zion Ragins, a Class of 2024 prospect out of Jones County High School in Gray, Ga., showed off his lightning-fast speed in testing, position drills and one-on-one work against the defensive backs to ensure he didn't leave Knoxville without an offer for the Vols. Though he's played just one season of high school, Ragins already has several Power 5 offers.
“I was expected to run like a 4.2,” he said. “That’s my best, a 4.28, but I ended up running a 4.38.”
p.brown“I liked it, I really liked it,” Ragins said. “I liked the coaches, how he demonstrated (the drills) better and better to us to improve this season.”
Ragins left Tennessee's camp mostly pleased with his showing.
“I think I did good,” he said. “I could have did better by catching more balls and the balls I shouldn’t have missed. Sticking my routes, I should have did better, but that’s it.”
Prior to formally getting the offer, Ragins said the Vols offering would put them in contention for him at this early stage of his recruitment.
“It would be very special, very important to me,” he said. “I might think about coming to Tennessee.”
He's also an inch or two shorter. It's not just that he's only 150
I mean I’ve seen 2 slot types we’re recruiting? Everybody wants Pellum. I don’t care about size in this case. Try catching him after he gets the ball in his hands lolSays he's 5'9.
I don't care if he's 5'8. With his type of speed and agility in the open field it's easy to call plays.
Hyatt was 160 after his Senior year. Squirrel 155. Go back in the Sq White thread and look in the early pages.
People get caught up with size dimensions too often vs just looking at the tape.
This kid can easily be 175 by his freshman season running a 4.2.
But we are recruiting him as a slot no? Asking about Pellum. The fact that you're calling Pellum a little undersized and he is 3 inches or so taller
From Rivals:
The speedy but small four-star receiver from Gray (Ga.) Jones County is still looking through all his favorite teams, with Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Florida State, Miami and Florida among the top group, but he doesn’t seem settled on a particular school yet.
The Sooners and the Volunteers could be especially interesting because of how they run their offenses and get players the ball in space, but it’s hard to believe he gets out of the state if Georgia really starts to come after him hard.
Prediction: Georgia
