Rebound every miss and limit the turnovers and get Key involved offensively to grab a win.

Were a one point favorite according to Massey who is two for two predicting Tennessee thus far. We need to stay with the main players in this game. We had a 19 point lead and decided to sub five new players next thing you knew it was five.

From the UT game article.....

  • Indiana is coming off its second-straight NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2021-22, when it went 24-9 overall and advanced to the Big Ten Tournament title game for the first time in 20 years.
  • In the Big Ten Preseason Polls, the Hoosiers are picked to finish second by the media and third by the coaches, with 6-0 senior guard Grace Berger and 6-3 junior forward Mackenzie Holmes projected once again as all-league performers. Berger and Holmes were All-American honorees last season and among four Hoosiers on All-Big Ten teams.
  • Berger (Cheryl Miller Award/Naismith Trophy), Holmes (Lisa Leslie Award/Naismith Trophy) and transfer Sara Scalia (Ann Meyers Drysdale Award) are on preseason watch lists.

Need to narrow down the minutes to win this game.

I would play these 8:

Powell
Jackson
Darby
Franklin
Key
Puckett - spelling Jackson and Darby
Walker - spelling Powell
Hollingshead - spelling Key and Franklin

Before you say what about... ... Nope.

They just got their butts kicked by the other team that was picked to finish 2nd/3rd in the Big Ten, it will be interesting to see if they fare any better tomorrow...

We didn’t talk much about Rickea’s double double in the last game. Hope she does it again against Indiana, and for the rest of the season. GLV!

Kea is as determined a scorer as I have seen at Tennessee in a very long time. Once she has made her mind she's going to shoot, it's nearly impossible to stop her. And it's only the first full week of the season. 🤩

This is a very good lineup, couldn’t argue it. Just watched the second half of the UMass game and wrote down all our different lineups, and what happened with each in the second half. There was obviously a lot of experimentation, so what I wrote down may mean nothing.

The group that played when the score was TN 54 UMass 44, to TN 65 UMass 46, (a 19 point lead), was Powell, Walker, Tess, Rickea, and Tamari. These same 5 players also got the most minutes in the game. Only for a short while at the end of the 3rd quarter did Tamari and Franklin play together.

The next 5 players in order of minutes were: Franklin, Miles, Sara, Marta, and Hollingshead.

Marta played defense with a lot of energy, her shots weren’t falling, but I expect they will. Miles played well, and brought a spark, so I think both will play in tonight’s game.

We had a lineup where Walker, Powell, and Miles played together, and another where Miles was the only point, with 4 of our taller players. Matchups will be instrumental in determining which of our players play the most tonight. Still looking at 10, not sure which players would not play, to get the number to 8, guess we’ll find out tonight. 🙂

LV's have a big height advantage in the post...will they take advantage of it?

IU has 4 legit scorers in Holmes (F 6'3), Berger(G 6'0"), Scalia (G 5'10") and Garzon (6'3" G/W).

It's a little early to know what type of scorer she will be as a Lady Vol. The potential exists for her to lead all scorers. Will she be turned loose? Will her teammates get her the ball in a scoring position?

In the absence of JH there is no question she will be the volume shooter/scorer. With JH in the lineup, she prob does not get as many shots attempted, but I suspect Jackson will have the best shooting% of the starters outside of Key who makes her living down low and is not a volume shooter.

So is it confirmed Horston wont play tonight ? Shes our everything and it bothers me that out of every player we can afford to lose the very last one and i mean last one we can afford to lose is horston :( . Luck has not been on our side with injury's these last 2 years but that's no excuse for the poor performance these first 2 games in my opinon. Rickea needs to take over and be a scorer like she was in the UMASS game once horston went down . I want rickea to do that while Horston is in the line up as well that makes us a way more dangerous offensive team . Still no remedy for the turnover issue though .

She reminds me of how a lot of Lady Vols used to look out there back during the 2000s. Possessed of a will to go in there and take what she wants, gifted enough athletically to dominate less talented opponents, but most of call, having a mindset of a winner. I'm not looking to dump on anyone else when I say that, either. Every player and every circumstance is different. Just saying that when she's out there, I see some of that genuine "I am that good" swagger. Kind of nice to see it. Let's hope it spreads.

Would be good to see Puckett get quality minutes, she showed as a freshman she was legit at this level. She just needs extended minutes to fully develop into what will likely be a very good D1 player. I would think her all around type game would especially help UT when JH is not available. Her BB IQ is very high. She is capable of playing in the 2-4 spots imo, so there should be opportunities for her to play meaningful minutes.

And yeah, there is a reason Jackson was All SEC….she is gifted. She will need help offensively tonight against IU though who has 4 legit shooters and who will not play scared. Need Key to be a big player in this game, they have no player that can match her size down low. Hopefully the team shoots well and more importantly perhaps, dominates the boards against a smaller team. Key doesn’t need unnecessary fouls of course…Franklin should deal down low also If she is on her game. Holmes at 6’3” is their de facto post type, but she isn’t a banger on the boards, her game is mostly offensive.

IU can score. They are blending in new players into the starting lineup as well, but if UT takes care of the boards and plays good perimeter defense on their home court they should be ok even if Horston is out. IU never presses like OSU did, maybe they try that tonight, but they have not been a pressing team in past and likely not as effective at it. OSU prob one of the best pressing teams in WCBB.

I think IU is better at shooting and moving the ball on offense compared to OSU however. Berger and Scalia have to be covered closely outside all game. Holmes will get her points, have to make her life hard in the paint tonight. She is really good. This is a big time game for UT, IU is legit. A few years back they played SC early in the season and they were fantastic.it was the Paradise Jam tourney early in the year, 2019-2020 when SC won the NC. IU beat SC convincingly.

UT must be worried fans are going to show up late thinking tipoff is at 6:30 or 7 because I just got a call from Kellie on a recording reminding everyone that tipoff is at 6 and to leave home a touch early.

I am free today to be able to make it to a 6 o'clock game, but as soon as I saw the schedule I thought that might be one a lot of working people will, sadly, have to miss. 7 p.m. weekday games are difficult enough for many of us, and 6:30 tipoffs are a real struggle to get there for. But but 6? 😳 Hope TBA doesn't look empty tonight.
