Still bummed out by the Florida series. I was hoping to win one game.

Outscored 12-2
Outhit 16-7
More errors 3-0
More walks 14-3
Less strikeouts 19-22

Jeff: our pitchers walked 14 hitters in three games, or nearly 5 walks a game? That's TERRIBLE.

Guys the girls were sick with the stomach flu....We played alright knowing that was going around the team

I only watched the first game of the florida series and noticed the home plate umpire was giving the gator pitchers EVERYTHING and the Lady Vol pitchers NOTHING. Even the check swings all went the gators way. The gator that stuck her elbow out for a HBP was enough to make me turn the flippin' channel. SMH

Florida does this better than anyone IMO. I can't remember the DP for them last season or two, Bailey something or other...she got a HBP about every game it seemed. I don't like it, but Walton teaches it and it's legal if the ump allows the batter to take a base. But you're right, that elbow just magically seems to get hit a lot doesn't it? How about that.

There ought to be a rule on hit batsmen that the batter must make some attempt to avoid being hit to be awarded first base. Hitters who crowd the plate and manage to get nicked by pitches that are close to the strike zone should not be awarded first base.

All that said, we have to hit lots better. We were terrible. Ralph is already starting to sound like Butch with his constant "we're young" refrain. And it's not true! Yea, we have a couple of freshman pitchers, only one of whom has pitched regularly, and we have two freshman in the lineup, which is hardly unusual. Everyone else, 7 starters against florida, I believe, is a vet--gregg, geer, gaffin, mcswain, overstreet, aucoin and geathers. That's not young.

It was Bailey Castro. They have two players the year that put her to shame in that category - Merrit and Fuller. Fuller was the one that stuck her elbow out. Even the ESPN crew was amazed she got away with it but treated the line carefully not to insult the umps too much as ESPN likes playing nice.

And that elbow only seemed to get hit a lot more after those elbow pads became commonplace. Funny isn't it, what a strange coincidence.

Edit - and to expand on that, now teams are afraid to throw inside to them for fear of the HBP, so girls are going up there looking for the ball over the middle or outer part of the plate. Big advantage if you're a Florida hitter and know the odds of them trying to hit the inside corner are slim.

The rules are the same for everyone folks. If a coach is smart enough to take better advantage of the rules as they are he will take better advantage of them when they change them.

The rule ought to revert back to the batter has to make a visible effort to get out of the way before being awarded first base. Easier on the ump to see and prevents coaches from trying to "game" the rules to get on base.

The strike zone seems to be different in Florida. We didn't score enough runs giving up 12 in three games isn't to bad. Scoring 2 is terrible.

Already an error by UT. Aucoin bobbles the throw which would have been the third out. Instead the runner is safe and the next batters stoke a double and a single. MSU up 2-0, one run unearned.

Rainey threw some good outside pitches that looked like strikes. All umps are different. Consistency is out the door.
