gamecock crowing

Someone on VN had mentioned it earlier this week. Well there you go. May not be the smartest or best rule but now it is evenly applied.

It was ME!!! :) HAHAHAHA! I knew this would become an issue. Not because it is that big a deal, but the SEC got onto Auburn for the exact same thing earlier this year. The issue is "Institution controlled electronic noise" and the rule is there to protect visiting teams from this sort of thing getting out of hand.

I called it. :dance2:

what a stupid ruling. what's next, trading in the cheerleaders for a bunch of Rosie O'donnel clones?

this all has it's roots in the myth of self-esteem.

the article linked to in the OP:

Code:
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The rooster won't crow as much at South Carolina's Williams-Brice Stadium.

The Southeastern Conference has told the Gamecocks they can only play a rooster crow during timeouts, after a score, before the game, during halftime and when the game ends.

South Carolina had been playing the rooster crow before critical third downs and other times to pump up the crowd.

The SEC told the Gamecocks they were breaking conference regulations about when artificial noise could be played.

"We are certainly disappointed that we have to limit the Gamecock crow, as we know its a crowd favorite, but obviously we will comply with the Southeastern Conference rules and regulations," said Jeff Crane, the university's athletics marketing director.

imagine if "sic 'em smokey" and the growl were limited.

this is just a stupid rule and it's designed to decrease the intimidation factor for the visiting team.

They DON'T do "sic 'em smokey" and the growl. Have you just not been to Neyland in 10 years, or what?

UT follows this rule, and has since I've been here for sure... which others on the board will tell you has been a VERY long time.

No, our mascot just bites people which in no way violates any noise rule.

not quite 10 years...I was there for the UAB game during the NC run.
Pardon me for not being up on current events, but I still think that this is a stupid rule.

Agree 100% on the stupid rule part. But at least stupidity in the SEC is applied evenly.

I'll give you that... but it really doesn't detract from the game whatsoever. In fact, that cock crowing gets on my nerves so bad, I am glad for the rule. :whistling:

I didn't make it to Neyland while they were doing the growl, but when I brought this up last weekend there were people here that were glad we don't do that anymore, and I certainly haven't had a poor time at a game because they don't play a growl over the PA in between downs. :eek:k:

yeah, in hindsight, I thought the electronic growl a bit lame myself.

give me the band playing the "Imperial March" any day of the week.

I'm glad we found a common ground on this issue then. :)

It is far better to have the band playing rather than some stupid PA noise. :dance2:
