As for restaurants, I like Connor's, all 3 of the "Grill" chain, Regas, By the Tracks Bistro, Mango, The Orangery for an expensive but delicious occasion, Nama or Wasabi for sushi, Naples or Savelli's for Italian, Stir Fry Cafe for Thai or Oriental, and wings from BWW. How's that?

Pregame-Drink beer and eat nachos at the Downtown Grill and Brewery.
Postgame-Drink beer and eat sushi at Nama.
Post-postgame-Drink beer and Patron shots at the Downtown Grill and Brewery or Macleod's.
You are correct. The DG&B is in the location of the former GSB.(jakez4ut @ May 10 said:Tennessee Whiskey, Coke, Ice.....and a glass for more civlized fans....
as for at the game...is the downtown grill and brewery on Gay st? If it's the same place i'm thinking of....my buddies and i used to hang out there all the time....used to be called Great Southern Brewery...my roomate was a manager there while we were in school. cool place, had many a good time in there.
can't go wrong with Spicy's before the game, or Charlie Peppers...at least that's how it used to be....been a couple of years.
After the game....hell, who remembers after the game?
yeah, i was still there when they close the Lap and Library....sad, sad day. Staples of my college existence while at UT....I remember Hoo Rays, but wasn't a huge fan....nice to hear about Market square....and the strip just isn't what it used to be...i know it's been brought up in other threads, but remember Hawkeye's Animal HOur...3 for 1 drinks....Flamingos was cool too to catch band, the tap room and on and on i could go...the strip now is too commercial and "franchised". Not too many local establishements that give the strip some character anymore. But who knows, if was there now as a student, i'd probably still love it...i just remember it how it was when i was there....(kiddiedoc @ May 10 said:Wow. A couple of you cats haven't been around in a while. Here's the update for Volsgal and Jakez:
Hoo-ray's is no more. And hasn't been in years. It was Banana Joes for a while and is now a "lovely" establishment called Red Iguana. Quite a change from the Old City standard of yesteryear.
Spicy's has been gone for a while from the strip, although there are a couple of new franchises around town. If you want wings on the strip, you'll go to Buffalo Wild Wings.
The Downtown Grill is great for hanging out or shooting pool, and IS the old GSB. For beer downtown, you can't miss with Preservation Pub in the square. Speaking of, for those who've been astray for a while, Market Square is "happening" again. Check it out.
And, of course, the Lap and Library are long gone, but not forgotten.

Gus's is still going strong.(jakez4ut @ May 12 said:yeah, i was still there when they close the Lap and Library....sad, sad day. Sad to hear about Spicy's....i'm sure i was almost done with my "around the world" journey...those of you that frequented this establishment, know what i'm talking about.
Is Gus's Good Times Deli still there? if that place is gone, then things really have changed, and a whole generation of UT students are missing out on Gus's 3a.m. drunk tax on his food!!!!!
thanks for the update Doc....
