Booms day is Saturday night so the whole down town will be jumping. Not really familiar with clubs bars. I normally get the grill going.

Recommend eating at Calhoun's. Must be at stadium in time for VOL WALK and to watch the band march to stadium blaring rocky top the whole way. GOOSE BUMPS !!!! Of course you must shop at book store or at vendors inside stadium. Gotta get the new Vols stuff.
Have a great time, maybe we will run into you. We will be in orange.

Forgot about Boomsday. That will bring lots of people down and any bar is likely to be packed. As for tailgating, there are free places around but you'll need to be early

They'll release the schedule of gameday events the week of the game so check back for info on the Vol walk, band, etc

Maybe a Mod could make this a sticky. I have a feeling this question will be asked multiple times in the next couple of weeks.

No kidding, there are already a few threads buried that deal with the same question, thoroughly answered that could be merged and stickyfied.

Maryville Pike .. 'Love That BBQ' is flat out AWESOME.

Saw this thread title and thought the TV show was coming to town for a game. Rename thread IMO.

Go to Old City saturday night it will be a good time, some really cool bars and clubs down there. Sunday you'll want to be around the strip or Calhoun's or somewhere near the stadium like parking garage g5-30 or g-10.

As far as bars go, the tin roof on the strip is quite popular with college students and alumni. If you are looking more downtown in the old city, you cannot go wrong with barleys. It is a pizza place that has pool tables upstairs. Another good one in the old city is the crown and goose.

Also a really popular bar downtown is suttreys. It is off of gay street and summit hill. But before the game starts you will probably want to stay around the strip.

I'm a rookie to the Knoxville scene. The wife and I are coming up for Boomsday and then for the game on Sunday. So I have no idea where the good places to go are.
Old City?
"The Strip"?

The more you plan to drink, the more you should look at the Cumberland strip. You can go, park, enjoy, and then walk to the game. If you plan to be incapable of driving back, there are numerous hotels that offer shuttles to/from the game.
