she should have given jr. what he wanted, what sr. would have wanted. all this is sad really. nascar has fallen so far from what it once was. more fans = more money = bigger mess. it used to be about the racing on the track. those days are long gone.

TEI's worst mistake was allowing Jr to leave. His name will get you enough marketability alone. Martin sure wasn't a bad backup choice, but now that he's gone it's.................... Menard, Smith, Amirola??? Truex is alright, but he's not top 8-10 caliber.

Greed instead of family won out in this instance. Dale Sr. is pissed somewhere!

Dang, the spotter is important. That's team chemistry, I wouldn't have cut him no matter how much.

They need to bottle up whatever the truck series is doing. That is by far the best racing under the NASCAR brand. I think one of the biggest reasons is that the races are shorter, that's a start.

why should Teresa just hand over something she worked so hard to form with her now departed husband whom she loved, to her step son and step daughter with whom she didn't have a very good relationship with?

i can't believe there are people out there (not specifically here) who still haven't moved on from this. just because it wasn't called Teresa Earnhardt Inc, doesn't mean she didn't sacrifice and put her time into it as well.

the company was every bit as much about her as it was about her husband.

Yeah, it seems all teams are struggling right now. Times are tough, even the best are not exempt.

NASCAR.COM - Johnson's spotter cut during layoffs at Hendrick - Nov 5, 2008

How long until 1 guy has to be the Jack Man, Tire Changer and Gas Man? Maybe the drivers will be changing their own tires next.

Shades of Wendell Scott. I watched him at Bristol do just that. He got out of the car, and while his son gassed the car, Wendell jacked the car and with a cross lug wrench changed two tires at a time. He had no other crew members. I offered to help him at the next race, but was not old enough to get a crew pass.

I'm saying that she should have presented JR with enough ownership of the team so he could upgrade the resources. Not to mention that she had the most marketable driver in Nascar to help out the team financially. Now that Martin's gone I wouldn't be surprised if there's no more existence of DEI(TEI) within the next 2-3 years.

I like Chevy myself, but not so sure if they would be better off with Chevy. Have you seen this rbroyles?

Running on fumes: GM could soon run out of cash: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance

No, I had not, but it doesn't look all that great for Ford or Dodge either. This ties in with my thread a month or so ago about the three auto companies telling Nascar they were not happy with the status quo.

I wonder what Tony Stewart thinks about Toyota now?

The future for Nascar is looking more precarious every time something is made known.

My thoughts exactly, All 3 are definately about to be pulling sponsorship dollars, no doubt. It kind of sucks for Nascar. I read somewhere that the 700 billion bailout plan was supposed to be Good for Nascar. I don't like the way this looks for the sport. When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

what do you think dale sr. would have wanted in the end? he would have wanted jr. to take it over someday. the writing was on the wall and jr. could see it. he knew if he didn't do something drastic, that they were in trouble. low and behold he was right. i think for teresa it is more about the money with winning a close second. she could have had both if her ego had not got in the way. after all, jr played an enormus part in making DEI what it was. you see where it went without him.

you are right tho. it's long over with. i am just hoping for the day that nascar will do something to make me a serious fan again. i used to love it almost as much as any sport.

If Teresa had sold out majority to jr , I think DEI would have flourished , and she would've had her cake and could eat it too . JMO

I understand she worked hard for this but sometimes emotions ruin buisness.

i bet sooner than that.

i think it was more about not backing down from something she felt was just as much hers at it was Dale Jr's.

i have no idea what Dale Sr. had in mind for his race team, but whatever it was, it didn't go downhill when his son left the team. it ended when he lost his life that afternoon in Daytona.

At the start of 01' DEI was as good as anyone. Without the proper people and decisions made after that, the organization turned into a nightmare.

i would assume the engines would still come from RCR.

Dodge needs to just get out altogether.

I agree. Looks like Evernham and Petty are the only Dodge teams remaining and their finishes have been no cause for joy this season. I wish Bobby Labonte would leave Petty. I hope he gets the #41 ride. He probably won't but it's a nice thought.
