Gary Patterson not going to Arky

Well, at least that dumb rumor is over. Always fun to watch Arky fans get their hopes up only to have them dashed.

To add to this, though, we aren't getting him either. You'd either have to offer $5 mil/year or promise him something incredible, because Patterson loves TCU.

Translation: I'm going to Arkansas

Exactly. This is that same weak-ass quote from 2-3 days ago where he says "I don't think there's anything to that." That is the least denying denial I've ever read. Sounds like a done deal.

Just like how Chris Petersen to UCLA was a done deal.

At this point I'd say it's still not decided either way. People can pull out quotes from both types of scenarios to prove their point.

I'd say if I had to guess, he won't be going to Arkansas, but we'll see.

Not sure I understand all the love for CGP . He is about to finish his first year of playing in a real conference and if he loses to Texas and Oklahoma he will finish 6-6 . I know he has done well in previous years but it was against inferior competition . I wish he had been in the B12 for a few years so we would have a better picture of what type recruiter and coach he is .

He also lost his QB to rehab early on.

so because somebody says he won't go somewhere, it actually means he won't go there??

Wonder what Saban would say about that?

EDIT: not saying he will, just saying during the season that doesn't really mean anything

And up until this year he has been recruiting to a small school in the MWC, which oh btw doesn't inspire the better recruits to go play in. Now that TCU is in the Big 12 that will start to change, but it's not going to happen overnight.

Patterson will get better recruits at TCU if he stays, but he will never be able to recruit as much talent as a Texas or an Oklahoma. TCU is a small private school that has a current enrollement of around 8400 students. Hell that makes Vandy seem like a big university.

If we can get Gruden then that's great, but if we don't then a coach like Patterson and his staff, especially on the defensive side would be a huge hire for us. If he could keep us in the top 15 in recruiting and with his ability to actually coach up the talent that he gets (something we haven't seen around here in a long time) then he would have us in contention most years.

I will say this though, even though they lost they're starting QB this year, TCU's offense isn't that great and would probably be better served at taking a look at a couple of the offensive coaches that we currently have on staff.

I have made many of these points elsewhere in threads pertaining to Patterson's candidacy for our position. And I believe that they actually work to our advantage. Two or three 6-6 or 7-5 seasons as a recruitment-disadvantaged newcomer to the Big 12 would make Patterson's star begin to lose a bit of its luster. Now could be as good a time as any for Patterson to jump ship if he truly wants to compete against the best.
