Obviously, since gas prices averaged $3 a gallon on Christmas for the first time ever this means that Obama is in the hands of big oil and the Saudis so they can price gouge us hard-working Americans.

Sorry, just had to make that statement to see what it felt like.

I haven't watched a ton of news, but I really don't hear the media and Democrats being as irate about this as they were, say 3-5 years ago. Haven't heard the phrase "windfall profits tax" used even once. Have I not been paying close enough attention?

The outcry has not been near as bad as the past few years with the sodomy that the American people are getting at the pump.

It's a damned shame, though.

saw a scroll on NBC this morning that the ex-CEO of Shell predicted $5.00 a gallon by 2012

We would've seen these prices, or higher, 6 months ago were it not for the BP mess, imo. time to make up for losses. I need a bike.

Was paying $5/gal in Spring/Summer of 08. Went to close to or around $6/gal in some areas of the country.

that would mean that unemployment would be back under 5% by 2012, which it wont even break under 9%.

He is saying that oil will be at least $150 a barrel. $110 by Memorial Day Weekend is doable, but $150 by 2012 is a bit of stretch

the oil price and unemployment aren't negatively correlated. if anything the opposite historically.

I think it obvious that we have been de-sensitized now to $3 a gallon gasoline. No one is squawking like they did the last run-up because this one was not nearly as abrupt.

If you want to blame anyone, blame the Chinese. Their economic growth is fueling a lot of the demand right now. (Get it? "Fueling" the demand?)

Yeah... lets blame the Chinese even though we are still using 4 times as much oil as they are, and we also consume approximately 25% of the world's total production.

The current president is not "big oil", in fact he is quite the opposite. Hard to imagine why the prices are high if he is not getting a kickback.

you're not going to hear it now, wait until the new congress gets in.

I also notice that we don't get a monthly tally of soldier deaths anymore. During Bush's years, we were getting a monthy total from every news outlet but not anymore.

I read where we lost more soldiers in 2010 than the prior 2 years. yet you don't here a word from the media. You sure don't hear a word from all he anti-war folks either.

That's because Afghanistan has for us turned into at leqast the mini-quagmire it was for the USSR in the 70's.

No one knows what to do about it. There is no definition of winning or losing, just "improving."

We would make more progress in Afghanistan, if we stopped cowtowing to Pakistan, get the Taliban out of the Tribal regions and most importantly get out of Iraq

Got to love the timing of their price spikes. Christmas, Labor Day, Fourth of July. Anytime more Americans are on the road you can bet you're getting pumped at the pump. They've stopped trying to hide it anymore, they're gouging and making us like it.

I remember the day before 9/11 the gas prices we're like 1.78 in Ohio. Then they jumped to 3 and never came down again. The whole thing is a joke. The reserves are maxed out and no matter what they have an excuse for why per barrel is going up.

Demand is far greater these days than then. Gas and oil is a finite amount of material, but demand is ever-growing.

Unfortunately, there is no viable alternative even still. It's too bad so many were poo-pooing investing in research for alternative energies back in the 90's when it was dirt cheap. I expect global climate change will play out similarly, and in 20 years everyone will be like "WTF?"

BS. Demand did not jump by 200% in one year. Production is greater also. They have proven that demand does not control the barrel. The barrel is used more to manipulate economies and growth than any other area. Our dollar is tied directly to oil. There is a reason it is going up and will go up again and it's not due to demand.
