It depends, I guess. We don't view it as such on almost any other level. A D2 coordinator moving up to an SEC position coach is likely viewed as "moving up the ladder". Joe Osovet moving from a JC head coach to a positional coach at Tennessee was viewed as a step up in his career.Rats starting to jump off the ship. Where have we seen this before?
I know it’s a league job but wouldn’t you consider moving to a position coach to be a downgrade?
Possibly? Toney was making 1 million a year at Florida. Idk what he’s making but I’m pretty sure it’s likely half that number as a position coach in the league. So, I guess it may depend on what the coach's ultimate goals are. Without knowing the salaries, I'd imagine Toney may have taken a bit of a payout, but if he had future goals of being an NFL coach rather than a college coach, this may have been a more logical move.
Yeah, the salary is the only thing I can think of that would be considered a scale back for him, and it's likely considerable, as you said.. Of course, the NFL job comes with less work, too (no recruiting, booster schmoozing, etc.). It seems like the place for guys who want it to be all about football and none of the extra stuff that comes at the college level.Possibly? Toney was making 1 million a year at Florida.
