Is one better than the other as HC? Two good defensive coaches with National Championships as DC. Each has one good year as HC and a couple of average season's. Both about the same age, both with SEC experience.

Gene Chizik's record at Iowa St was 5-19 before getting hired at Auburn.

Edit: someone beat me to it.

Gene lucked in to a great team and proceeded to recruit it down to the bottom of the SEC. Strong did right the opposite took a Louisville team with three straight losing season and had three winning season. He has them in a BCS bowl this year.

Gene took over a bad team with a losing record and recruited players that won a NC! John L. Smith's 10 win season at Louisville could be just as much luck as Strong's and Chizik's one good year.

I feel that Strong is definitely a better head coach than Chizik, but that's not saying much. Like Chizik, he'll just need the best OC in the country and a once-in-a-lifetime player at QB to compete for a championship.

Let's be fair and honest... Charlie Strong doesn't have them in a BCS bowl, the broken system does. #21 Louisville, with losses to Syracuse and UConn, against #4 Florida, who lost to previously #3 Georgia. Give me a break. They don't deserve that bowl game. Automatic BCS qualifier FAIL.

If you want to play the game of "what-ifs" let's be fair about Auburn. Newton was paid, he shouldn't have played, had he not played Auburn wins NO National Title. They didn't deserve to be in that game.

:good!:

This isn't even a comparison. Gene doesn't belong in the same category as Strong. CS did it with Bridgewater who isn't on the same level as Cam. Everyone knows it was Gus who made the wheels turn at Auburn when he was there. GC was just along for the ride, and to hide the check that was wrote out for CAM
