Hummer, GMC, Saab, Saturn, and either Buick OR Pontiac should no longer exist by 2012.

The only way to save GM. GMC trucks are pretty much indistiguishable from chevy trucks. Saturn has no identity and no buzz about it. Hummer should be sold off (which GM is attempting to do), either Buick or Pontiac should be purged. At least if they purged Buick, you would think they could use the technology/turbos from Saab in future Pontiacs. On the other hand, Buick is a gateway car to Caddies, and the Enclave is a hit right now.

DETROIT — General Motors is expected to reveal a “wide-ranging” plan on Tuesday to address its deteriorating sales and liquidity by cutting more jobs and taking other steps aimed at reviving its turnaround effort.

Getting rid of Oldsmobile to retool Cadillac was the right move. I agree with the general message that GM has too many undifferentiated brands.

How is cutting jobs going to help? Seems they usually pay these people and for their healthcare for eternity.

A GMC truck is no different than it's Chevy counter parts. GMC should definetly be on the chopping block.

fords stock is less than GM's. i'm a fan of gm products. i have an '08 sierra, my mom has a yukon, my brother drives a jimmy, my first truck a '97 gmc sierra is the farm truck, and my dad sold out and got a 4 runner. we've always had gm products. i think they have quality products

considering gm owns chevy, do you think they would cut chevy before gmc?

Chevy is the stronger brand - Chevy has all the GMC vehicles (under other names) but GMC doesn't have all the Chevy vehicles.

Also, GMC just has the gas guzzler models.

It seems the GMs cost more than the Chevy counterpart.

I think so. Higher priced SUVs and full-sized trucks are not exactly selling like hot cakes right now. Add to that the fact that there is Chevy version of each GMC offering - it's pretty clear that GMC would be on the block.

bring back the Monza, Chevette (diesel powered variants too), and the Celebrity. That should bring GM out of the doldrums!

I think thy should go smoking as fast as they can toward the hybrid and alternative energy vehicles. Gives them an opportunity for the future and might provide them an advantage over Honda and Toyota. They also have to address their unions, pensions and benefits issues, which are the crux of their lack of competitiveness.
