Awesome clip. I noticed at 1:43 of the video, General Neyland is shown during game action at Shields Watkins Field. Not certain, but the opponent shown on the scoreboard looks like "Cle...", so that's presumably Clemson. We played Clemson in Knoxville on 10-1-1938 when General Neyland was coach, nearly 85 years ago. It was a 20-7 win for Tennessee. We also played Clemson at home in 1944, but Barnhill was coach then.

Now I'm wondering if it's just one little clip...

The general needs a proper doc damnit!

It may or may not still be accessible on youtube, but there most certainly was a biographical documentary made on Neyland. Some of these clips look very familiar, whether it be from that video or "100 Years of Volunteers" (1990), which was released, as best I can recall, within a few years of the Neyland documentary. If you haven't already seen it, here are links to that two-volume series: and .

Incidentally, a quick youtube search revealed this little nugget: .

I have seen those and that old Neyland doc that used to be on YouTube. It was a really good one, but it was pretty dated. Must've been from the early to mid 80's.

You could be correct. I remember that Wallace Wade, the old Alabama coach, was interviewed in one or the other of these productions, and he passed away in 1986.

After looking at threads, OK, skimming threads; I decided this was the best place to post the image below. I was fooling around with digital coloring of B/W photos, and decided to do the General. I'm no expert, I'm no artist, I'm just an off my rocker Vols fan. OK, for critics, the ribbons are totally incorrect because coloring such tiny items individually is for pros, which I'm not. I don't know what Neyland's eye color was, so just guessed at being sort of gray. Or his hair color, so assumed it was sort of brownish. I post here because it was fun to do, and I might try one or two more at a later time. So feel free to either enjoy this amateurish effort, or condemn me to Hades and beyond for blasphemy, It's VN after all, the craziest and most fun board there ever was or will be. Long Live Volnation (and the General)!

The Army has us going back to the pinks and greens. While, as an officer I am bummed because I have to buy it myself (about $1200 all in with new shoes, etc) I do think it cool to resemble those old WWII guys who were just such hero's. Here is a picture of the new Army Service Uniforms:

Neyland is the godfather of Tennessee football just as Summitt is the godmother of Lady Volunteer basketball and Mears is the godfather of the Tennessee basketball program and Delmonico is the godfather of the Tennessee baseball program.
