Anybody else notice that 90% of what we read coming from the coaches seems to be just "coach speak" and we learn very little about the players? Maybe it's that way at all schools and with all coaches, but it just struck me today how true it is of our press releases.

In this article, for example, I learn a lot about Coach Bajakian but virtually nothing about his players.

VOL REPORT: LOOKING AHEAD - VolNation

It gets old after a while to keep reading about what the coaches are doing instead of reading about what the players are doing. It's good to hear some of that, but not every article.

And, yes, I did notice that Coach Jancek talked about some of his players in that article, and I appreciated it a lot.

Hammer away.

Edit: I should mention that even though the article above mentioned was found on Volnation, I don't hold Volnation responsible for what the coaches say.

I guess they could say that we are very inexperienced at QB and at WR position and slow on defense, but that would take away from all of the comments about people being beast's and being nasty...

Since the coaches are new to the program, maybe the writers think there is more information and insight to get from them than the 18-22 year olds who are playing the game. How much are the players going to to be able to tell us? And the bottom line is with 6 more months of no games we will probably get everybody's input all the way down to the laundry dept. before we get to see any games.

My problem is not that we don't have more player interviews--I'm fine with the number of those--my problem is that the coaches talk primarily about themselves and what they are doing instead of talking about the players. It's like listening to a speech where a politician talks for 10 minutes about all he is doing and then briefly mentions something about the person he is there to honor.

It's not the writers' fault. They are just transcribing what the coaches said in interviews.

So and So had a great hit today, So and So has gained 5 lbs of muscle, So and So looks like he might be more of a TE. Snooze. I want to read about the new guys in town and what they plan to do to get us back to the top. There will be plenty players to read about in September.

There can't be an earth shattering revelation every day. At least we are hearing about what the coaches think we have to do to get us back to being noticed. This is the time of year that news isn't too exciting. Just wait and see, we going to be flying a mile high soon.

For those that don't remember, Bear Bryant made a pretty good career of never saying anything. He grumbled and mumbled about what a lousy coach he was on a daily basis. He said little else to provide bulletin board quotes.

Ya and then we would have people complaining how the coaches throw our players under the bus by saying they need to improve...

Does not matter what they say about whom... someone on here will have a problem with it and start a useless thread bashing them about it.

Or they might know that some idiot is going to get whipped up into an angry frenzy no matter what they say and cause a scene. They're keeping it vague for the betterment of the fanbase.

If it's an interview, then I'd consider it the writer's fault if the coaches don't provide the answers you're looking for. They need to ask questions that lead to better answers and more info.

Otherwise, new coaches always talk about themselves because that's generally what they're asked about. I can't count the times that some Heather or Jmmy type asks "What's your philosophy on...." or "How do you handle...".
