I have avoided genesis for all of my life until now and mainly it was Phil Collins that turned me off for the most part. I like Peter Gabriel a bit more. But I stumbled upon this album and I have to say I like it. It is worth a listen for those who have not heard it, but it might bring back some feelings to some of the older people lurking around here. Any thoughts?

I'm surprised you haven't listened to them before, one of my favorite bands.

I have, but not too much in terms of diving into the really old stuff. The newer Genesis kind of turned me off, that is until I discovered some of the earlier work which is a lot more appetizing to me.

Anything by Genesis pre-180 is good stuff. Some really good stuff, especially when Gabriel was their front man and Steve Hackett was on lead guitar. Gabriel left at the end of 1975 and they stayed strong until Hackett left in 1977. That's when their music took on a pop flair, with Collins and Rutherford becoming the principle song writers

Make no mistake, they were fantastic with this lineup:

Peter Gabriel - voice, flute, oboe
Steve Hackett - lead guitar, acoustic guitar
Tony Banks - Keyboards
Michael Rutherford - Bass
Phil Collins - Drums

If you like Trick of the Tail you might like Seconds Out - it's a live album that I believe was the tour for TotT. It's still Collins instead of Gabriel but Hackett is still there and the dueling drumming of Collins and the other guy whose name escapes me (Chester something?) is great. Gabriel was the far better singer but Collins is a superb drummer.

My fav. Genesis albums are The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Foxtrot, Nursery Cryme and Selling England by the Pound.

Love all of those albums as they are my favorite Genesis' albums too. I also like the post Gabriel albums when Hackett was still with them. Wind and Wuthering is my favorite post Gabriel

"I've got sunshine in my stomach"...all the Gabriel stuff is a trip. :cool2:

Yeah, I have been listening to bits and pieces of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Not too bad. Thanks for the link to the vid, pretty awesome.
