George Clooney as JACK RYAN? - Mania.com

I would love to see a Bear and the Dragon movie!
Are we about to see a total reversal of plans for Paramount's gestating Jack Ryan series? That very well may be the case here if Kim Masters' sources at The Daily Beast come to fruition. In a business commentary about the production deals (or lack of) going down within Hollywood at the time, Masters is reporting that George Clooney is interested in playing Tom Clancy's shelved hero Jack Ryan.
Clooney also appears to be looking for his next commercial opportunity now that the Oceans franchise seems to be played out. A source says he expressed interest in playing Jack Ryan when and if Paramount attempts to revive the Tom Clancy series. Clooney seems to recognize that at this time in the world and this time in his life (hes pushing 50), its time for some commercial maintenance.

The issue with this speculation is previous confirmations from producers that Paramount is looking to reboot the Clancy character with a younger actor in hopes of a new franchise of films. At one point in time, Ryan Gosling was rumored to be a favorite for the role.
Clooney may desire to have a new franchise character under his belt here but in order for this to work out, the studio would need to shift their desires away from a youthful Jack Ryan. Paramount does have some options for this scenario with an older Jack Ryan being the central focus of Tom Clancy's later novels, "Debt of Honor", "Executive Orders," and "The Bear and the Dragon."
What do you think? Could George Clooney be the next Jack Ryan?
