At first I thought you meant George Michaels...

Thank God that's not the case

This is what I immediately thought. He was so young.

Then I read the article. Prayers and condolences to Mr. Michael's family.

I had the pleasure of meeting George in 1995 while on the bullriding circuit. He actually interviewed me for an article that he was writing about small town rodeos. One of the classiest men that i've ever met.

When I didn't have cable in my room, he was all I had to look forward to on Sunday nights.

Many credit him with helping to grow NASCAR in the 80s and early 90s, as he was the first major sportscaster to include NASCAR highlights and to take his show on the road each February to the Daytona 500.

Little-known fact about him: About 8 months after the cancellation of the Sports Machine, George resigned from NBC4 in Washington in order to save the jobs of four of his staffers. His contract was large and he said he couldn't enjoy what he had if he knew it came at the expense of good people whose only crime was working hard. He was definitely a man of character, and he will be missed.
