I've noticed recently ESPN is calling Georgia a high profile coaching position. I wonder if they are calling it that because of Knight's name being rumored?

I know it's the SEC, but it's Georgia. If it were football, then I would agree.

Your thoughts............

It's not a high profile position, IMO.

BCS conference school with successful teams in several sports and large fanbase, Bobby Knight reportedly interested... Seems kinda high profile to me.

So, UT was a high-profile opening four years ago??? No.

it may not be "high profile", but it is a position with plenty to gain. Large fanbase, plenty of money, BCS school. It can be a very good position for someone.

I did not realize we were speaking of "potential". In that case, UGA has the "potential" to one day boast of a high-profile basketball program. As does every other major conference school.

good job not paying attention my entire post. I would expect someone with all your accolades to be better at something like that.

Very few schools have the AD money that UGA has. One of the MANY schools that doesn't? The University of Tennessee Knoxville.

All good points that make the Georgia job attractive. And perhaps the most appealing aspect of the Georgia job is the in-state talent that Georgia produces each year...it's one of the most talent-rich states in the country for hoops...in recent years alone, Georgia's produced:

Derrick Favors, Dwight Howard, Wes Witherspoon, Chris Singleton, Mike Mercer, Louis Williams, Randolph Morris, Cam Tatum, JJ Hickson, Javaris Crittenton, Al Aminu, Tony Woods, Kenny Hall and I'm sure I'm missing a number of other big names.

All that said, I'm not sure why we're talking about the Georgia job anyway. It's futile to discuss the opening at this point. I think the Dawgs give Felton another year to turn things around.

I heard the same nonsense about Gruden. Not buyin' it.

It would be tough to fire a coach less than a year after he led his team to a SEC Tourney Title.

Georgia is not a high profile job at all. It is a good job because of the talent in the state. If you get a guy who can handpick the talent he wants out of Georgia and they become a contender real fast.

Its not that the Georgia talent is not picking UGA....Its that they are not picking SEC as a whole.

A lot of the Georgia talent goes to the ACC....Duke, Wake etc. I know there are a few exceptions but this is the case more times than not.

If UGA could some how convince these kids to stay at home they would be in a great situation.

As for the Bob Knight thing....I think its an awful fit for UGA. They need a guy that is wanting to stay there for 10 + years, not a guy that is wanting to stay for 3 years.

That'd be great, but it's not realistic.

How many coaches in BCS conference have been at their current school for 10 years?

If you're Georgia, and you can lock Bob Knight down to a 3 or 4 year deal, you do it.

I'm reading that Sam Mitchell and Sean Miller may be targets for Georgia.

I don't think they have a prayer of luring Miller to Athens.....Mitchell, I'm not so sure about. Thoughts?

I think Kevin Mitchell and Brad Miller would be good options if they're eschewing Knight.

As an 8 year-old at the time, that bare-handed catch he made in '89 was the coolest thing I had ever seen a baseball player do. It also hurt like hell when I tried to duplicate it on a line drive to 2nd base a few weeks later.

They've never really done anything, but it would be a good job to take for a good coach. Georgia has good HS talent every year and major conference makes it a good job to take.

You may be right....Is there any truth that Jeff Capel is high on their list?

I have a hard time believing Capel would be interested.

Im not sure but I think after Auburn gets its new facility...That may leave UGA as having one of the worst b-ball setups in the conference.

There are a couple of places that I have not seen...If someone could enlighten me that would be great.

There was legitimate interest on Georgia's side. I believe they contacted him to gauge his interest...as expected, he informed them he has no interest in the opening.

I believe you are talking about the Stegasarus as some here call it. It would be a good arena for a small college, but pales compared to other SEC facilities, but for the fan support they get,it is adequate (seats about 1200-14000). The biggest problem is the lack of parking near Stegman. It use to be pretty good, but they have built a lot of new buildings on the parking lots. They also just got around to removing the stage that made it look like a HS gym a few years ago.
