Georgia quarterback Joe Tereshinski III, who started the No. 10 Bulldogs' first two games, has a high right ankle sprain and will miss four to six weeks and won't be available in the team's next three games, coach Mark Richt said Sunday.

Tereshinski's injury means highly regarded freshman Matthew Stafford, from Highland Park, Texas, will start at quarterback, beginning with Saturday's game against Alabama-Birmingham at Sanford Stadium.

"I don't think anyone's established themselves as a solid number one," Richt told The Associated Press. "I do think we've got more than one good answer. And hopefully one guy will settle this thing and we'll move on from there."

Stafford, who enrolled at Georgia in January and competed with Tereshinski and two other quarterbacks for the starting job, took over when Tereshinski was hurt in the first quarter in Saturday night's 18-0 win at South Carolina.
Stafford completed 8 of 19 passes for 171 yards and threw three interceptions. Redshirt freshman Joe Cox will be Georgia's backup quarterback.

I get the feeling that deep down, Georgia fans won't shed any tears over Tereshinski being out of the lineup...

I think it was just a matter of time anyway. Stafford is light years ahead of Tereshinski physically. Just a matter of when his brain catches up.

Yes, all my GA buddies are stoked that Joe T is out. Stafford is an incredible athlete, with a rocket arm that's almost unbelievable.
I do think it's a double edged sword for UGA. While GA does have a great talent in Stafford, he still plays like a freshman, tossing up 3 INT's in the South Carolina game. While this didn't matter in that game, teams like the Vols and Gators will capitalize on such mistakes.

i agree...i think this is bad for us....the best thing that could have happened is JTIII be in there and be just good enough to not pull him....now Stafford gets 3 full weeks of no.1 practice reps and three cupcakes to play to get it figured out...before our game. time will really tell here....

LSU isn't on Georgia's schedule this year...

Minor detail . . . BTW looking at UGA's schedule, they really lucked out this year with Ole Miss and Miss St. rotating on as their West opponents. It also doesn't hurt that the Colorado game that they scheduled years ago has turned into a cupcake.

Our secondary needs to be licking their chops at the sight of Stafford. He tosses int's like parade candy =)

yep, b/c it could go either way. I thought ainge would be kickin butt last year...but that didn't happen. What if Georgia implodes? Of course, As I type this I recall that they have only had 7 points scored on them in 2 games...I know they were bad teams but 7 points is still pretty dang impressive.
