Congrats to the program on winning a conference outright in its first year in FBS-level play.

Tonight's 22-16 victory over UL-Monroe gave the school a 9-3 overall record, going 8-0 in the Sun Belt and winning that conference.

1st year in FBS and also with a new coach. Not to mention they were predicted by nearly everyone to finish in the bottom half of the conference. Absolute shame they aren't eligible for a bowl game. So proud of my Alma Mater :)

Agreed! That has to be the worst rule among a pile of terrible NCAA rules.

Wow good for them, really dumb they cant go to a bowl game, especially considering they won their conference.

That's awesome. I've had some good times in Statesboro.

I also think it's beyond stupid they can't play in a bowl game.

Wait, why are they not eligible for a bowl game? Does the NCAA make you sit out the first year or something?

A team in the their first season in FBS can't go to a Bowl game. Another stupid idea by the NCAA. Appalachian State didn't do too badly in their 1st season in FBS,they went 7-5 winning four games in a row to end the season.

Pretty sure they weren't competing with the full number of scholarship players either as they made the transition.

Even though beating Louisiana-Monroe is no real feat, I thought the field storming was acceptable. Winning their conference as first year FBS members is pretty cool.

I wonder what the ceiling is for their program? They've reached the highest level of success in FCS and made a hell of a splash this year. They'll be interesting to follow.

I believe their ceiling would be something like Boise State when they were in their prime.
