Germany: Taxpayers to subsidize stay-at-home moms' pay

Women would receive 150 euros per month (about $190) if they decide to look after their children ages 1 to 3 at home

this is less than what it used to cost me to send my child to daycare. Since many daycare's in germany are gov't ran theres no cost change. Either they'd spend the money on the child in daycare or their giving it to the stay at home mom's.

that's a little over a week for childcare and close to what you can save on taxes in the US using an FSA

They have a capacity issue because the government provides free day care so they are just shifting the money. Seems like a pretty cheap way to free up space.

Generally, parents can take up to three years off and still have their jobs guaranteed. During these years off, if the employer doesn't pay the parent, the parent can receive money from the government for up to 14 months, with the amount based on their previous salaries. The planned 150 euros per month would go on top of that.

Nice.

Is Germany's population growing? Or is it in decline like some other European countries?

Germans, just like many Europeans, enjoy a variety of social services from free healthcare to childcare etc. It only costs them somewhere around a 60% tax rate...

And a strong dynamic economy with an extremely efficient regulatory framework... At least by comparison to the us

Well it is the "Hardest Job in the World...." Why not get paid by the government to raise your kids. Hahaha. Ridiculous.
