Prohibition didn't work for alcohol and it isn't working for drugs either. All the War on Drugs is doing is eroding our civil liberties. Legalize it all (all drugs, not just pot) and tax it. Spend saved enforcement dollars on rehab programs. This is more humane than our current policies. It would also drastically lower crime overnight by eliminating the black market.

If you're against legalization then you don't understand basic economics.

And yet people still do it even when faced with jail time. Wouldn't you rather spend money on rehabing these people instead of criminalizing them? I don't see how throwing someone in jail is going to break their addictions.

considering the processes that goes into making the stuff, and how it makes people act, yes throw them in jail. same with crack, etc.

Do you really want people walking the streets on LSD, PCP etc?

They are now even with prohibition in place. Yod think by legalizing people are all of a sudden going to go out and start doing it? Would you? Just because LSD would be legal doesn't mean you'd see a massive increase in use.

If crimes are committed while under the influence, it would be dealt with the same as drinking is now.

People are going to get high, it's been going on forever. All prohibition has done is increased the profitability to the point that a black market has formed and the criminals are in charge. Bring the market above ground and you reduce crime.

Listen, it's obvious that the current policies aren't working. Look at the prison systems, what % are for non-violent drug crimes? What % of law enforcement $ are spent on enforcement. Not sure if you have been paying attention but gov'ts are going broke, it is time to try something new.

I understand your last part, but i mean legalizing all drugs? I mean a woman on LSD tried to EAT HER BABY! And yes it would become more rampant if legalized. The only reason a lot of people dont do stuff is that it is illegal.

i think it's naive to think you wouldn't see a sizable increase in usage with legalization. yes finding a drug dealer isn't that hard (still not very easy for those who don't hang in those circles), but it's still shady and has a stigma that legalization would greatly decrease. i agree with you about the non violent criminalization problem though.

I'm wondering how big a spike in work related drug testing there will be? Seems like that'd be a big fly in the ointment. If you can get popped and fired on the spot for testing positive I don't care how "legal" it is you'd best not be doing it if you want to stay employed.

And people that drink drive drunk and kill people. They beat spouses and children and kill, no different, just differ in the method (machination vs mandible). :)

Yes, there would be an increase in usage, but it wouldn't be massive.
