Tennessee has been referred to as Wide Receiver U. over the years and thus has birthed our show #4 topic.

Not only do I want your favorite wide receiver, but I am also expecting a reason why and a specific play that stands out in your memory.

Please only respond once, put some thought into it, I'll do some research on the receivers, give you your props and we'll talk about your selections on the show.

For me, it is Peerless Price because of the catches he made when we won the NC.

Carl Pickens - He could just flat out go get it. He and Alvin Harper made a slightly above average QB (Andy Kelly) look like an All Conference performer. Not to mention that he was such a great athlete that he was the Defensive MVP of the Cotton Bowl his freshman year.

Donte Stallworth. He was type who just made big plays no matter what the situation was. The one play that stands out to me was the catch he made against Michigan to get us down to the one yard line early in the game. It set the tone of how the game would be that day. We could have really used him in 2002. Too bad he left early for the NFL.

I liked Joey Kent, not only UT's all time reception leader but an Alabama boy that helped us own Bama.

all good responses, but duckman is the only one that actually read my post....give reasons and a specific play that made you think he was the best, hell, I don't care if it isn't exact, we all remember plays from some game....

I personally feel that James Banks was on to greatness If he didn't get in trouble with Phil and the crew. this guy had some unbelivably soft hads and was always there in the clutch (which we lacked alot of this year by the way). My fondest memory of him... well theres two that really stand out. The hail mary aginst Florida in the swamp going into the student section and the TD catch in overtime aginst South Carolina. Man he was great...

Carl Pickens.

He was consistent, spectacular, made the routine play, made the great play, and played big in big games.

He caught a long one against FL in 1990 from Von Reeves that just continued the drubbing that year.

I remember him making huge 4th qtr catches against Colorado, Notre Dame, and many others that year.

I also remember him catching some long ones against Louisville and Auburn in 1991.

Just a man among boys in college.

Joey Kent and Donte Stallworth are my 2 favorites.
Joey Kent because he was quiet and consistent. He was the "Marvin Harrison" in college for Peyton.
Donte Stallworth because he could take any 3 yard pass the distance with one move. He also was a punt return threat. He played second fiddle to Kelley Washington because he wasn't self-promoting.

I liked Joey Kent, not only UT's all time reception leader but an Alabama boy that helped us own Bama. ....How about 1st play of the game against Bama in 95 for 80yrds (bet they wish they had sent money to Huntsville instead of Memphis that yr !) Or How about Kent's 47 yrd TD catch from Manning in the Citrus Bowl to open the 2nd half against Ohio State and Eddie "3yrds and a cloud of dust "George? Better?

Although I think he's low on my list for all-time receivers, I'll lean on the performance of a single season and a game performance: Kelley Washington and his 2001 season and the 2001 LSU game. Don't boo me. I'm giving the only props this guy will probably ever get.

But overall Joey Kent is the man. He's hit career, season, and game highs and was reliable for Peyton just like Harrison is now.

vman jr, that's exactly what I was looking for, Kent makes my top 3 for that reason alone.

Yeah, I may have been really young, but my Grand Father and Uncle made me Tennessee fans. I remember them telling me of the great players that UT had.

Willie Gault comes to mind as a reciever that was great in his time.

......Peerless! I want to name sooooo many other crazy grabs. Tee, from what looks like mortar shells to Price brought home at the end of the day what we longed for since 1951. In my opinion there are no two more important catches.

Larry Seivers. East Tennessee boy who played at UT in the mid-seventies. Lead UT in receptions 3 years in a row. Lead SEC also in an era befor teams passed 30-40 times a game.

Larry did not have great speed but was tall and could jump and get open. If he got his hands on the ball he caught it. He was always double-teamed. A great cluch guy. He was a college Fred Belitikoff.

Does anyone know what he is doing now? (Maybe we could start a "Where are they now Thread?)

Although he wasnt one of my favorites, he Caught some very clutch passes. Anybody remember Cedric Wilson, his td catch late in the game against Miss. St. in the SEC championship game in 98 i think helped us win that game and advance to the fiesta bowl.

I always thought we were running back U? Anyways Donte Stallworth was a beast as well. in 2001, he was All-Southeastern Conference second-team selection by the league's coaches … Played in nine games, starting seven contests … Saw action at both split end and flanker … Despite missing three games due to injuries, he finished second on the team with 41 receptions for 821 yards (20.0 avg) and 10 touchdowns … Gained 11 yards on a reverse and made a solo tackle on special teams … Returned six kickoffs for 98 yards (16.3 avg) and a score.
