SIAP

Just wanted to make sure Gilliam and Swafford were given credit by VN for officially being put on scholarship. Congrats to two young men who started as walk-ons and worked hard to earn a scholarship. To me, these stories are even better than regular recruits from high school because often these players could have taken a scholarship at another school but they wanted to be a Vol so they worked for it. Proud of our guys.

They better thank A. Hill and Greg Clark
It happens every year. Some players will simply get recruited over, and move on. But Gilliam's rise leads me to worry about our LT position. It's not a good spot to be in, having to rely on a walk-on.

IIRC, people were saying that Swafford was too slow to play SEC football on his recruiting thread. Just goes to show that recruiting propaganda and the star system is flawed.

I agree 100%. We just saw a former 4* leave the team after spring practice.

The average star rating in the NFL draft this past year was 2.73*. There were 3 times more "no stars" drafted than 5*s.

Utah State fans keep using this argument to back up their claim that they will beat us.

You do realize the NFL is not indicative of college talent/success, right?

See Tim Tebow.

Also see where Jimmy Garoppolo went considerably higher than Aaron Murray in the draft.

Stars very much matter in college, less so in NFL.

Yes, but you also have to realize with there being over a thousand 2*s and only a handful of 5*s, there are going to be a lot more 2*s selected.

Six words: Nick Reveiz, 1st team All-SEC.

I'm going to look at this as a positive and just believe he is out-working and out-performing his starred rivals.

There were times last year when I wish we could have played the Sullin Brothers again. Heck, when we were playing the Sullin twins we had a winning record.

I am a huge fan of both of these young men. They are an inspiration and show how hard work pays off in the end. If you want it, then go get it. And definitely do not let any Internet Warriors tell you, that you are too slow to play on their team etc..

Let's give up on all of our scholarship players and field a team of walk on's..

The hyperbole is strong with this one.

The point is, if Gilliam performs at an All-SEC, I don't care if he is a walk-on, a crawl-on, a slip-on, or a roll-on.

Play the guy that gives you the best chance of winning.

I believe Swafford is still too slow to play DB in the SEC. He was just the best we had available. Hopefully he'll be replaced by incoming players. Gilliam on the other hand is playing the spot most put their best O-lineman. So maybe he's better than all the scholly O-linemen. Who knows

Most years there are around 30 five star Athletes.

There are 224 daft picks. I would prefer to see the percentages of 5 stars draft as opposed to no starts.

Congrats to Gilliam and Swafford!
