Personally, I like this pick the least from the vantage point of Tennessee. Gillispie is a workaholic (he's divorced primarily because he couldn't manage a life outside of b-ball) who will get Kentucky's program back to the top in short order.
Still, should be some good chess matches between him and Pearl in the coming years.
Good hire. The only caveat I would place on this is that Billy Clyde's strength has always been the ability to recruit the state of Texas. Having now spurned one of the Lone Star state's major institutions, it will be interesting to see if he is still well received when he goes after players there.
So, Hat, considering the coaches now in the SEC East, I have to think that the SEC West is going to be the perennial doormat for quite a few years, don't you think? Perhaps with the exception of Ole Miss and Andy Kennedy?

No prob... I agree, good hire for Kentucky, but more competition for us! He's a workaholic - should be some good matchups between him and Pearl in the coming seasons.
I hear this guy likes the low scoring games with a lot of defense and passing which is the complete opposite of Pearl's style. I thought Kentucky wanted a coach that ran an up tempo style like UT does but I guess not. I hope Tennessee will match up well to that style, maybe they can run them out of the gym.
Just watched the pep rally in Memorial. Billy Clyde looks like the happiest man on earth right now. I have got to have a beer with that man. He is just cool.
