Man, when will our defenders learn? I guess when they (excluding AJ and Sutton) graduate we'll be instantly better.

Thanks! I love the stories and threads that go into detail about schemes and basic workings of the team. It is real interesting for those of us who are fans and never played.

Not sure if posted but this is a great read on the mental break downs the defense had on Saturday. I am also amazed the offense had the ball on MO side of the field 9 times and only scored 3 points yet the defense is bearing the blunt of the blame in the loss.

Plenty of blame to go around. But, the defense was absolutely atrocious... everybody saw it and that's why they're getting the lion share of the blame. They earned it with their bad tackling, bad angles, lack of QB pressure and inability to not get gashed on virtually every Mizzou running play.

I've seen a lot of people on here, me included, criticizing the offense, especially the OL and WRs for playing very poorly
and not helping a true freshman in his first start. But in my mind, they were better than the D which looked eerily similar to Sunseri's 2012 squad.

The offense gets its share of the blame, too. But with a rookie QB in a hostile environment, it gets a little bit longer leash, imo. D was just plain bad.

Yeah, pretty much this.

Other than Cam Sutton, it is Sunseri's 2012 squad.

I agree with all and agree there is plenty of blame to go around. This season is still playing out close to like I thought. The defense may get worse as I think the season is starting to takes it toll and the lack of quality depth is beginning to show. The offense will probably improve as Dobbs gets comfortable with the system.

The one point I would like for everyone to get out of this blog is that scheme was not the issue on the plays diagrammed in the blog but mental breakdowns by players.

Repeatedly is the part that is disappointing. It was the same thing last year also a lot of times.

Yes I agree and I was all over Sunseri last season but the big difference this year is that they are lined up and seem to know what their job is but they just do not take good angles.

I am of the belief that if you are offered a scholarship at an SEC school you should already know how to tackle and how to take a proper angle. Some of these guys are juniors and seniors and still do not know proper angles.

They don't read pre snap very well. They get tricked into starting the wrong way then having to recover from it. Don't fight through blocks well either. Defense has been a eye sore the last few years. They're marginally better this year, but that's about it. They don't have any dominant players up front to disrupt things. All starts there and they get no pressure versus the better teams.
