To complement "our 2007 recruiting class" thread

I heard this on Clay Travis's show called ClayNation and
he revealed that of the scholarships offered since 2005, 41 of 91 officially offered are no longer with us or just plain :censored:. That is nearly 50% of scholarships wasted during the past few years of talent that were suppose to be studs on the college level.

I just can't believe how our recruiting has fallen this bad and now it shows with the state of the team it is in now. At least Kiffin was able to salvage the 2009 class with the five star additions of Bryce and Janzen-two Fulmer would not be able to add of that caliber. Hopefully, the recovery will continue on after the 2010 class and I am positive that it will.

But damage done and it shows.

im curious to see how this stat stacks up against other programs. Fulmer definitely was bringing in talent, but the development and control of the talent was OBVIOUSLY lacking. It could be argued that fulmer lost his job off the field 1000X times over than on the field.

Let them. I just hope they stay away when we are winning double digit games in 2011.

I think some people fail to see the importance of recruiting. They think a good coach at Western Kentucky can win a NC in his first year. The real football fans are still excited about the coaching staff.

Scary thought, what would we look like right now if fulmer was still righting the ship?

ESPN analyst - Dec 2008
"Frankly, I find it unconscionable that the Tennessee fan could push for the ouster of such a loyal coach after only 6 subpar seasons, 7 substandard recruiting classes, and innumerable off-field incidents. Vol fans are completely delusional, they should be happy with their once-a-generation national championship and just shut up. The nerve! Fulmer should definitely be given more time to right this ship. This is the most glaring example I have seen of what is wrong with college football."

Same ESPN analyst - Oct 2009
"5 games into the 2009 season and it is now obvious who was the genius coaching hire in the SEC - Gene Chizik! Meanwhile, Lane Kiffin can only beat Ohio and W. Ky. What a joke."

Two things I find hilarious/maddening depending on my mood:

People can't (won't) see the sorry state that Fulmer left UT's program

Media types demand patience from fanbases but rush to judgement themselves

We have been saying that for years now. Finially we have the stats to back it up. Two years ago I read that the NFL scouts had said that Fulmer and staff were not developing the talent they had as in years past. Phil got comfortable and complacent.

Good post & right on the money! Not only was the past coaching regime lax in recruiting quality talent with great character, they didn't 'coach up' what they managed to recruit! Fulmer became complacent & a lazy whiner.

To think Fulmer was talking junk that Giles and Shackelford would be here if he still was...What he wont talk about is how depleted our talent level is overall as well as depth. All because of his lazy a**

Typical government bureaucracy - you got 9 copies of my memo and some people have not yet received any.

Sadly, it won't be until 2012 till the last member of Fulmer's last full class leaves campus. 2013 will be the first Kiffin class to analyze despite half were recruited by Fulmer.
