I really don't see this being the blockbuster IPO they are expecting. Steal from me once, shame on you. Steal from me twice, shame on me.

Short term, it will be a wildly popular IPO because of the high interest from retail investors. Its a leaner, meaner company but the IPO price will be priced for perfection and the long term outlook is dim with the guberment and unions as large shareholders. Your best bet with a US manufacturer like GM is with a company with a proven track record like Ford, Boeing, CAT, or Deere. I do think that the GM ipo will bring renewed interest from the retail investor into the overall market

Depending on where it starts, I may try to get in for the first 2 days, ride the enthusiasm high before reality sets in and it tanks.

why would i want to buy their stocks. they screwed thousands of stockholder just to bail out the unions. i'll buy toyota or nissan before i buy government motors.

i don't see a lot of institutional interest. not with the way they completely screwed hte bondholders to help out the unions.

I was thinking that insitutions would be "forced" to own it, or else they face the wrath of Barney.

If you "must" own it, the preferred shares might be the way to play it

considering the way the govt screwed the preferred shareholders in fannie and freddie and during gm's first bankruptcy i doubt you are going to see much non retail interest. if i think GM has any prayer of not going bankrupt again i'd surely buy the common.
