It's nice Serrano was able to throw this bone to one of his players, but it doesn't signify all that much. Nearly all the primary roster guys are underclassmen who are projected to be high round draft picks in 2013 or 2014. Nearly all the alternates are undrafted upperclassmen who play for one of the national team coaches during the school year.

I hope Godley gets a lot out of the experience, comes back even better next year, and gets himself drafted. But his status on the national team right now is more a reflection of Serrano's stature than Godley's.

Do you think Godley did not deserve this honor. Zack pitched and pitched well when he was called on. He is not throwing Zack a bone, it is an honor to represent your country as a prim player or an alternate. Zack was drafted by 4 different teams but he decided to come back for his senior year out of love for Tennessee and respect for Coach Serrano.

Not trying to start a fight, ma'am, but Zack was not drafted, and he is not on the same level as the pitchers on the primary roster. His conference ERA was a full two runs per game higher than either Bobby Wahl or Jonathan Crawford. He had a nice season, but his resume simply does not match up to that of Rodon or Plutko or Berg or the other primary guys.

He had a nice year, I'm very glad he's coming back, I wish him all the best, but there is NO WAY he is one of the top 1% of collegiate pitchers in the country, which is what membership on the CNT roster sort of means.

You are correct, he was not drafted but I am his mom and 3 teams called him with a offer. He might not be #1 but you can bet he is going to give it is all and I am proud that Coach Serrano thought enough of him to take him. I hope the whole team does well and Zack is very honored to be a part of it

Ms. Godley, don't waste your time worrying about negative comments from someone who never competed at the level at which Zach has advanced.

It is an honor to even be mentioned with the USA Collegiate team. It is well deserved and you and your family should be proud.

We are very proud and love coming up to Tennessee. We have meet some of the nicest people, I want to think that Zack has helped get us out of the hole we were in the year before. You know Zack didn't start pitching until he was a Junior in highschool so he still has a lot to learn but he will always do his best and doesn't deserve comments like the one stated above. I do appreciate your support. Zack is a football player playing baseball. Coach Serrona has been a God send and Zack has the upmost respect for him and the rest of the staff. Thanks again

Ms. Godley,
You should be proud of Zack. I'm sure he will make the most of this opportunity.

Backwards K,
Try to read with some discernment. I didn't make one negative comment about Zack. He had a good season, and he got us our three biggest wins of the year. I'm definitely a fan of his. If you're so sensitive that you think it's "negative" to point out that he's not at the level of the other CNT pitchers who earned All America honors and won regional, super regional and CWS games over the past month, well, you're probably too sensitive.

Neither of you has offered any reason to question my original comment.

I am probably too sensitive and if I need to apologize I will be the first to stand up and say I'm sorry. I don't know enough about the CNT roster to question anybody. You know how moma's are Zack has worked extremely hard to get where he is and I probably took it the wrong way. Still friends, see you next spring!

Yikes, mom. Maybe not the best idea to come on a public forum under the family name to defend his honor. No doubt your son will have a ton of fun defending this one to his teammates. Kangaroo court anyone!? :)

Good luck, Zach.

I already called and apologized to him. I know I messed up. Won't happen again! Maybe the guys won't give him too hard of a time.

Having been one of 'the guys' in the past, I can tell you, he will absolutely wear this one. But as with all things, it will pass.

What he needs is a teammate to do something so bad/ignorant that his looks good! With baseball players, that something is only a day away! :)

I hope he does well. He's got a great new coach.

You said what you said. Not my fault, you got caught by the player's Mom and had to back up and try to change what you meant.

Actually kind of funny to see you run and hide from your original comments when the Mom showed up. Probably not the first time you've done that.

My point is: this is a great honor for a deserving Volunteer and there is no need for anyone to try and downplay it. Of course, Zach doesn't need me defending him......his Mom already backed you down.

But, I do agree with beavbullvol. Zach will pay for this particular thread.

This doesn't look like backing down to me.

BruinVol,
Backward K has trouble distinguishing politeness from weakness, very common for kids like him who think talking smack on message boards affirms their manliness.

Lighten up there Francis. Taking yourself a little seriously aren't you? I was just messing with you because you seem like the kind that would get real mad about somethign said about you on a mesage board.

I was right.

Oh, wow! You must be, like, some sort of magical message board mind reader who can discern the character flaws of every poster and draw them out to expose their inner weaknesses!

That was soooo brilliantly executed, the way you pretended to act like an ignorant punk with a reading comprehension deficit when you were really just stringing me out all along. Seriously, you had everyone convinced. And I walked right into your genius trap. I can't wait to see your next bit of rhetorical jujitsu. You're awesome, dude!
