Reports from practice today that Goins and Golden have played together some in the rotations at today's practice.

Good idea?

Against teams that don't have any size in the backcourt, yes. Teams with big guards will destroy that pairing.

It at least gives an option that doesn't include Goins aimlessly driving parallel with the basket with no plan to pass or shoot.

Not sure what that accomplishes. That takes Tatum out of the game and makes it even more difficult offensively, imo.

If we've given up completely on defense, just put Tatum at the 3. Or 4. We've obviously given up on interior defense anyhow.

I think the reason for this pairing is for smaller backcourts. Against bigger teams like Vandy, Cam will play the 2 for the most part.

I think Golden is a pretty good shooter, will handle the ball well from the 2, and is a good passer. He may in fact improve our offense.

Goins is the defensive problem on the perimeter now. Putting Golden in with him doesn't change that.

I think the switch is more for offense and to fix our turnover problems. I don't see UT playing the majority of the game with them both out there.

I doubt you were saying this when Goins totally dominated some of the top guards in the country from Nova and Pitt. Calling one player out as the problem defensively is a joke. You've obviously been sleeping when Hopson and Harris are getting schooled consistently.

No, you're right. I said it after Belmont, Oakland, Florida, USC, and Arkansas had guards that destroyed Goins.

Golden is the worst shooter on the team. Golden and steve pearl played horse once and it it took 4 months

My take on this team has nothing to do with rotation! Many other teams have more chiefs than indians,This team is full of indians and not one damn CHIEF!!! Everyone thought Scotty was going to lead us last year,Well when he showed he couldn't Big Wayne stepped up again. We don't have that player this year. This team doesn't talk nor listen real well form what im gathering. Someone has to step up because Scotty is not the leader on this team but he thinks he is so everyone is following him!! Thats my two cents...

It also appears that Pearl, Jr. has moved back ahead of Maymon in the rotation due to Maymon's poor defensive effort last game.

However, Golden is far from the worst shooter on the team. Pearly would win that award by a long shot. Tyler Summitt could beat Steven Pearl in a game of horse with Steven Pearl shooting only lay-ups! :p

Goins having his worst defensive game as a Vol on Tuesday doesn't make him the problem. He's also had some of our best defensive games on the perimeter.

His defense on the perimeter has been pathetic the last 5 or 6 games not just Tuesday. He's definitely our most capable defender. He's just not performing.

Hopson doesn't need to be creating his own shots. He needs a set up man to get better looks. Point guard needs to improve or these guys will continue to struggle. Not having a low post presence that can score is killing them too. If this team was good at running and pressing i'd say go with it. They just don't have to necessary parts to make the half court offense work right now. Too many missing pieces.

Apparently you are the one who has been sleeping if you haven't seen Goins get beat off the dribble consistently. His defense, except for a couple of games has killed us.
