Recently I have taken up golf and have quickly become (I hate the word, but...) addicted. I am fully into it. I just bought a Calloway El Diablo and love it. I have been getting by with some hand me down shoes and a putter. My questions for you guys are what are the best shoes (soft spikes) and the best putter?

Also, my eyes are very light blue and the sun just kills me. I lose the ball almost every time as its coming down. Any sunglass suggestions?

Golf thread is riddled with answers to almost all of these questions.

Best sunglasses are those you're most comfortable in and don't mind being covered in sweat / sunscreen.

Best shoes are probably too expensive to mess with, but the way to go is head to the TGW.com clearance, closeout and blem shoes. You can get something good for little money.

I would also look on last years sales rack or ebay for a new putter. IMO, the Cameron's are the best putters, but don't tend to be particularly forgiving of poor, inconsistent strokes.

My condolences. Once hooked you're doomed.

Shoes and putters are fairly personal (especially putters) choices and the cost range is insane for either. Honestly you have to go try on what you're going to wear anyway so go find a good retailer and start trying on good name brand stuff until you find something you and your wallet agree on. If you want a starting point based on reviews this should keep you busy 'til, say, August.

For shades I'd point you toward the Oakley G30 Black Iridium lens. I'd also point you toward the Half Jacket. With these you have the option of interchangeable lenses for other situations. I love mine.

I still wear my Oakleys, only because I haven't broken or lost them yet, but Bolle has come a long way in their frames and especially in their specialty lenses.
