Martin dons orange, hits recruiting trail govolsxtra.com Mobile

The Spurrier of softball put in solid work for this article.

Martin is doing solid work in Memphis

We are still on Poythress.

The coaching staff avoided a violation with Ware.

If we can get he and his family up to Knoxville for a visit, they can get to know Coach Martin and see whether or not Ware wants to come reunite with his friends and former teammates, or head to another place. By the way, I think Leslie is withdrawing from the draft, and I think that Ware will want to see how some of those decisions play out. What will hurt the worst as a UT fan is if he joins the UK class which is the greatest class in the history of CBB to this point.

I know his HS coach pretty well.

If it is true that UT reached the limit on visits to Ware, CCM would have been in violation of the rules. For all of the geniuses who were carping about his priorities and lack of good judgment should eat their words. I know this won't happen because they will look for the next nit picking issue to complain about. They should just grow up and let the coach do his job.

best quote from the article:

"I think Coach Martin and Chris have been down the same path, raised by single mothers, coming from tough backgrounds,'' Johnson said. "Chris needs a good leader that he respects and will be on him and show him tough love.

He's gonna have an instant connection with recruits that many head coaches do not. . .

The UK class is nowhere near the caliber of the 2009 class. Sorry. Four 1st round draft picks says it all. I don't see four one-and-dones in this class (Gilchrist, Teague, and Davis perhaps). Wiltjier is a three-year guy IMO. He just doesn't have an NBA body right now.

Why didn't Hamilton tell him they had use their in home visits with Ware. Guys, Hamilton is the problem, he's incompetent. Thank goodness Martin check.

That is not Hamilitons job, UT has a compliance officer who is responsible for such things and Martin is responsible for his own compliance with NCAA rules. Martin would have been at fault if he did not check the status with the compliance office on all the players he is recruiting. Valid criticisim is one thing, just blindly throwing bombs is another.

You are right Hamilton should be fired. I do not understand why people continue to make excuses for Hamilton. He is the #1 problem at UT and needs to be replaced period.

I'm very confident on what Martin is doing so far...I think this guy, just like Dooley, will win BIG at UT.

So, Martin should just figure out on his on what BP did with in home visits. He doesn't need a AD to be a go between. A AD job is to run the department, He is the head of the department. In Hamilton's case a very weak one.

Be careful on that road. This was brought up by a couple of us as a common sense point but other fools turned it into a race riot and denied ccm race and background would ever matter with any recruit. 2 weeks in and its a factor. Shocked!

Patterson wasn't apart of the 2009 class...so 4 first rounders in that class. Wall, Cousins, Bledsoe, and Orton.

Almost impossible to win a National Title with a bunch of freshmen. Maybe he needs to recruit a few superstars yet bring in some guys willin to stick around for a few seasons to put some experience with them..... Experience usually beats young talent...

Rivals 2009
John Wall 1
Demarcus Cousins 2
Daniel Orton 22
Eric Bledsoe 23
Jon Hood 40
Darnell Dodson

Rivals 2011
Marquis Teague 2
Mike Gilchrist 3
Anthony Davis 6
Kyle Wiltjer 25
Still in the running for
Trevor Lacey 34
and Kevin Ware 56 (I would expect them to get Lacey and not Ware.

I think if they get Lacey (who could end up with Grant but who I expect Cal to pull) they will have a group that is on paper at least as talented as 2009. By the way, they also would have 5 players coming in ranked higher than our highest ranked recruit. They were in it until recently for the 9th ranked player Deandre Daniels.

It is accurate to say that it is unclear whether the 2011 class can be as good as the 2009, but it is also accurate to say that the 2011 class is not complete and may be better.

To be the best ever they probably would have needed Daniels (who I thought they were getting as I have not been following him much since December/January)...

"For those of you that don’t know, the Fab 5 is arguably the greatest recruiting class in the history of college sports. The 5 consisted of Chris Webber (#1 ranked recruit), Juwon Howard (#3 ranked recruit), Jalen Rose (#6 ranked recruit), Jimmy King (#9 ranked recruit), and Ray Jackson (#84 ranked recruit). This is the only time in the history of college sports that 4 top 10 prospects signed with the same school. Just for a comparison, the 2009 Kentucky class, also considered by many to be one of the best recruiting classes ever consisted of a “mere” 3 players in the top 25."

There are plenty of reasons to criticize MH, but this is about the poorest attempt you could have made. That is nothing close to MH's responsibility. It is totally on the compliance office. Things like this are the reason there is a compliance office. To try and say that MH should personally keep track of the number of visits that coaches in every sport have made to every recruit is asinine.
