This is a great read, I agree. Things have changed so much since I played college baseball at Belmont in the early 90s.

Great read and thanks for sharing

At the risk as being seen as a jerk I am going to point out that fathers don't get their kids recruited. I absolutely hate the million dollar industry that this thinking has brought to baseball

Parents are spending thousands and thousands of dollars on dream like this only to have their kids owe 150k in student loans like the kid discussed in the article. For Those that can afford it no worries but there are many families spending money they don't have for the dream of "getting their kids recruited"

Not a jerk..... I shouldn't say that a father hoping to get his kid recruited but a father that is gonna spend the money to send his kid to camps in hopes that he catches some eyes. But I also shared this article because it changes how I look at baseball coaches. Expected to get it done with very lil to work with.

Agree with this too. I have a 9 year old son who plays travel ball and the pressure to do more, spend more, play more is immense. The sad part is that about 75% of parents who's kids play travel ball think their sons are D1 material when in reality only about 5% are.

I graduated in 94 so we probably either passed each other on campus many times or we might actually know each other :)

I did go to some baseball games and played a good bit of pickup ball in the gym there. Thought I wanted to be in the music business like my Dad, but had a change of heart and took my own path after a couple years. Still loved the school and the city.
