GM Volt's price induces some sticker shock

"I'm not sure the Volt is going to be a volume vehicle," said George Magliano, director of automotive industry forecasting for North America at IHS Global Insight. "The technology still isn't there to make them cheap. At the end of the day, the consumer pays a hefty premium to make a statement."

Thoughts other than clowns running gubment/gm?

geee i thought the reason why GM's old management decided to delay mass production of the volt for the US was because they were incompetent and in reality americans desperately want electric cars? isn't this what obama told us?

I've commented about the ridiculous price tag of the Volt on other occasions.

Anybody who buys one, especially the first model year, is an idiot. GM has a horrid track record when it comes to a new model release and the Volt is going to continue that trend.

I don't suppose Teleprompter Jesus asked how the electricity used to recharge his Volt's batteries is generated.

and that used to be the bs reason why ford didnt' go under, but gm did. of course they failed to mention that ford's biggest profit center and the model that probably saved them from bankruptcy is the F-150 which is probably the most unenvironmentally friendly car they made.

The all-electric Nissan Leaf only goes 100 miles?!? I live in Phoenix, Arizona. That means that you could drive one of these around town, but you would need a real car if you planned on leaving Phoenix or you would be stranded in the middle of the Mohave desert. Even Tucson is more than 100 miles away.

Even with the tax breaks this car is more than most Americans' yearly salaries. So with all of the hype and trips around the country speaking on this, how are we better off going this route? Can't Barry talk the unions into taking a pay cut to help drive the price down? Or since he runs GM, can't he just say $10,000 a car and no interest on the loan? A car in every driveway?

I'm still trying to figure out how I can cram all of my family and say groceries in this thing. Not only is the price impractical but the 'refueling' and the size are no-go's for me as well.

I loved Gibbs' rant against Limbaugh yesterday. All of that ranting about the GM bailout and betting that Limbaugh doesn't own an F-150. Well the F-150 is Ford and Ford didn't receive a bailout. Not relevant to the conversation Gibbs....

GM recently bought a lender (including sub-prime). GMAC was jettisoned in the govt takeover and now they go by a lender to get people with sketchy credit to buy GM cars.

Beautiful. What's the message; predatory lenders are only bad if they aren't working for the govt?

Good to be back. I get bored and need a good VN fix from time to time....that and the job being slow. Dems sitting on their hands is bad for business of late. I need another 'healthcare reform' or something to drive business....

There's not a chance in hell I would pay $40,000+ for a weak electric car when I can get a fully-loaded, pavement-smoking Camaro SS for less money.

I'd rather have a 2011 Mustang GT with the new 5.0 liter V8. The Camaro is nice, but you're still buying a GM product.

Give me the Camaro SS with that beast of an engine and I'll be set. The Z/28 is going to be even more awesome.

Wasn't the Volt in Transformers? This alone should be enough to sell it to the masses! RAWWWWR, autobots roll out!
