His and Maze's play will determine the season for our boys. Hopson is probably our most talented and Chism our bggeat impact, but Tyler losing the disappearing act and Maze playing D are the season.

We'll get a good read on how this team in the Virgin Islands. They should waltz past East Carolina. Then, the tests start. They'll probably draw Northern Iowa, who returns pretty much everyone from the team that won the Valley last year. They're a more talented version of the Belmont team that scared us to death last season. Survive that and it's Purdue or Boston College. If this group hasn't addressed their toughness deficiency, either of those teams will punch them in the mouth and take their lunch money.

Our boy unimane won't like it, but Pearls teams play a brand that needs toughness, but none of his players have ever exhibited it, at least in K'town.

Agree and disagree. Yes, I know they need to show toughness, it was the #1 thing I noticed when I went to a Buzz game in Knoxville and a UWM game a week later. So, yes, they do need to be tougher, I never said otherwise. However, I do think Tyler shows toughness and also Wayne, although not consistantly. They need to lead this year.

Some guys just aren't wired that way. However, it's interesting that some coaches never seem to have a problem with their team's fortitude. If you recruit tough kids, you get tough teams. It's not the DaVinci Code.

I did like reading what Melvin Goins said about thinking his defense is his strength, thats what he likes to do. I hope he brings some toughness to this team and he cant do much worse on defense than Maze did last year. Here is to hopefully some good surprises this year.

From my perspective, Wayne is the most frustrating case. He has spurts of play where he feels it, owns it, and dominates. He has all of the tools. He's got a sweet shooting touch for a man his size. But then he has long stretches of games where he just seems timid. If Wayne, Tyler and Hopson wake up and realize just how good they can be if they play aggressively and take it to the rack more often instead of settling for contested jumpers, we can be successful this year.
