judging from the thread title i thought for sure it was a article about football. I didn't know ut bball was ever a empire to begin with.

Read the article man. It has teams such as Drexel, South FL and Others mentioned as well not all "empires". Based on where Bruce Pearl had us, I would say we were a lot closer to an "empire" than not.

Not really sure you could call it an empire. We had a few good years with pearl but overall men's basketball is much worse than this. I will hold my judgement until we have a team not effected with injuries

There is no reason to read the article to say that the Tn Men's basketball team has never been a empire..Loved the years with Pearl and he made us relevant, but the empire at UT is with the women's basketball, even so more than the glory years of our football program...Have one of the better areas in the nation, and look at the name on the court

Put aside the title.

A more relevant question is: Is UT basketball a program on the rise? Or a program in decline?

My thread title was meant in a jocular vein - a referential spin on The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire, but compared to what we have now, the previous version of Vol basketball did seem analogous to an empire. The six-year span under our previous coach was the heyday of Vol Basketball. If things don't improve pretty soon, men's Vol basketball will be nothing but a memory, so it's hard not to look back to the glory years with a sense of reverence and feel dismay over how far our program has fallen in only a couple of seasons.
