Oy my. What will we do? Does this mean there will be more people with a D by their name wasting our money than people with a R by their name wasting our money.

it isn't suprising, we have government school indoctrinating kids for years and in the last 15-20 years they've put the indoctrination in overdrive. Churches have become much more liberal over the last 20 years. the media has been more biased over the last 15 years. "moderates" have destroyed the parties message.

so it isn't suprising that more people are switching. However, i bet if you did a poll on lower taxes, more liberty, less government, you would find an overwhelming percentage being conservative.

That poll is a commentary on the last 8 yrs of Bush in the White House. Has little to do with left leaning teachers in schools.

i think its hilarious that the right wingers are labeled racists, but if you look at that report, in 2001 only 12% of blk ppl voted Repub. now its down to 10%

Really? So there is no possibility of a combination of factors being involved, Bush in office among them?

You don't think it has anything to do with the "me generation" coming of age and starting to become the larger demographic? As you can see the baby boomers and the "greatest generation" are on the decline and soon will be no more.

If you don't see that this is a factor you have your blinders on. Bush's policies were certainly huge factor here, the bad thing is that Obama is furthering these failed policies and even stretching them to new and unprecedented lengths.

IMO the difference in the number of left leaning teachers in 2001 and 2008 is minimal, not enough to account for that kind of change.

The big difference from 2001 to 2008 was the Bush Presidency. When Bush took office in 01 he was popular, in 08 he was extremely unpopular.

you don't think so? absolutely it does. kids aren't getting an accurate history education, civics or economic. but they're getting great sex education, environmentalism education and social studies. yes, it does have something to do with it.

That's ok, Obama will take care of the polls for the R in the next 3 years.

Obama's popularity will last only as long as he is able to get away with blaming everything on George W. Bush.

I remember in circa-2002 when the talk was that the democratic party was on death's door.

These things change, and fast.

Again, I'm not lifting blame from the Bush administration, I was a registered Rep. when he took office and by the time he left I was a Libertarian. But what I realized is that I always was more closely aligned with the Lib. party but in our dysfunctional, two party dominant, once-you-get-in-try-to-stay-in-at-all-costs system it just took me a little longer to realize identify it. As someone else mentioned earlier, asking people to label themselves as Rep. or Dem. is misleading anyway. Ask people about specific issues and then ask whether or not they are liberal or conservative on each one and see what the results are.

Tell me again why I should be losing any sleep over a party that nominates the likes of McCain, Bush and Dole for president?

2009-2012: Democrats will decline

Natural cycle of those in power

I think it is different this time.
The Reps are no longer the alternative to the Dems, but are now the Dems lite.

The Reps are leaving their base.
I am nearly as disgusted with the Reps as the Dems.

The Reps are no longer "conservative" and that is why their numbers are diminishing.
