Gordon's Year

He may have a chance with all these Chase changes.

I seriously doubt it. 1995-2001 isn't coming back.

Doesn't mean he's not winning to this day, though. Instead of smashing individual records, he chose to win by proxy with the 48 car.

And he has done that.

He has a model wife. He is worth 300+ million. He has a pied-a-terre in a posh 'hood in the world's greatest city, NYC. He trots around Belgium and France during the offseason. He has 6 championships as an owner.

All the guy does is win.

PS: He and Smoke are still the two most talented guys in the business.

Yes, he did. Whether he did it knowingly or not is a different question. Ask anyone in the garage area circa 2002 if they didn't think the 48 would eventually become a "dynasty."

If Gordon has Knaus and some of the other guys at the 48 camp (Malec, Michel, et al) for the past decade and a half, he's sitting at 100+ wins and several more championships.

People also tend to forget Jeff wins the championship in 2004 and 2007 without the Chase. That's 6. And that's one with a bonehead, Steve Letarte. Impressive.

It's as big of a team sport as there is.

I agree that he will never win another championship, but it has nothing to do with his talent.

If NASCAR were about pure talent, Montoya would have had a lot more victories.

Jeff said he would retire if he wins the championship this year. Alas he is getting closer to quitting. Sad as I would have to go full 48 then. I would love to see him out there having fun and being competitive, maybe a bit more aggressive like he used to be. It would be nice if he would become the crotchety elder statesman and just out people into the wall every Sunday.

Not a bad start for 24 a third place finish but I have to admit I was so excited for Jr.

Officially 4th. I was 'WTF' too when I saw it this afternoon. I realize the race ended when the yellow came out but he looked ahead of Kesel by a good margin still.
