I got custom fitted for the first time last night, and decided to get the new Burner 2.0 steel clubs with a 1.5 inch added shaft length and midsized grips.

So here is my question, my existing carry bag (I always walk when I play) is only 6 slots. With my new bigger, longer clubs do I need to invest in a 14 slot bag? I have heard that the bigger grips cause some jamming down at the bottom of the bag. However, I have noticed the 14 slot bags are pretty darn expensive... What would you guys recommend? Thanks alot :hi:
Edit: I'm trying to stay in the low $100's

1.5 inches is an enormous extension. Swingweights must be brutal and staffs whippy. Consider more upright sticks.

As to bag. Go to TGW.com and look at the discount or closeout bags. Sun Mountain and Ogio make good stuff. Most titleist bags are decent.

Yeah I am 6'3 1/2 so I sorta had to! :w00t: The golf pro there said from the looks of my swing the stiff shaft would be fine, and I did get the 2* upright. Hopefully it wont be to whippy like you say, but hey thanks for the suggestions man :good!:
Edit: TGW really does have some great deals on clearance bags!

2* upright should solve the problem with the whip, just make sure you get a handle on club distances as you might even notice a 2 club difference in some yardages. I can't imagine not playing 4 wedges (pw, gw, sw and lob) in your situation.

I've always loved the ping hoofer, but bmfpv is right, ogio and sun mtn are some good bags. Just make sure the dividers go all the way down the bag and you shouldn't need a 14 way divider. I prefer the 8 way ones, but they're getting hard to find.

I'm 6'4", and my fitted shafts are .5" longer than standard. A competent club fitter can fit you a hell of a lot better than anybody over the internet, but +1.5 is unusual.

Well, he was a golf pro who fit me.
I broke my neck last year and have some physical limitations. Longer clubs help me with the pain

I agree about the +1.5. Taller players tend to have longer arms, which means they generally don't need extensions that long. As for the OP, I hope you got plenty of flex in those shafts, that will help you generate much more whip than the additional length.

Now yall got me worried! :( But, at the store they had a golf simulator thing and was doing just fine with the 1.5 extension clubs.

If the OP has longer legs, shorter arms, long torso or who knows what else the 1.5" might be fine. What ultimately matters is standing straight up, hands at your side and measure from your wrist to the floor. A top notch pro will have a chart and I'm sure you can find it on the interwebz, but I'm lazy. And even then that chart should just be used as a starting point, not an end all to the discussion. Lots of your taller tour pros don't even use extensions. It, like just about all things golf, is an individual thing.

Yeah it's really personal preference. Whatever feels best for the individual. Weird thing is, my right arm is an inch and a half longer than my left! Maybe due to my injury, I dunno. Wrist to floor on my left I am 37 1/2 inches and my right is almost 39.
Oh and thanks a lot Vol in Il! :salute:
I'd also add that what they say about the Burner 2.0 is absolutely true. The distance is incredible... On the simulator I was constantly hitting the Burner 6 iron 190- 200 yards as opposed to another 6 iron going 170-180.

If you were fitted by somebody who knows what he is doing, I'm sure you are fine. Unusual doesn't mean wrong.

You shouldn't have to pay "extra" money to get fitted. Go to your local pro, or a pro day at your local club, or one of the Golfsmith/Edwin Watts/etc. superstores and they will do it for free.

Fitting can help. If there were two pieces of advice I would give the beginning golfer, they would be:

1) take lessons from a PGA pro

2) get fitted

My family is from Putnam Co. Cookeville is going to town.

I don't know the golf shops there. Any decent course will have a decent pro. If you are going to Nashville, there is an Edwin Watts near Opry Mills.

Every major manufacturer makes good clubs. If you go to a club pro, he is most likely going to have one brand and will give you more individual attention. If you go to a superstore, they will have all brands and you will get less individualization but you can hit a variety of clubs. Either way works fine.

love the area, born and raised here, just boring sometimes for a 19 year old college kid. i will probably end up making a trip to nashville and try to see all the options. i've always like callaway and taylormade stuff so i'll probably end up getting either of those. maybe i can find me a pair of golf shoes while i'm there. i've been playing in my tennis shoes cause i wear a size 15 and can't find any that big ha
