My buddy and I have recently started to discuss the potential technology has to revolutionize government. We have convinced ourselves that time is ticking until governments will no longer be able to keep people down. Social networking has played a huge role in combating tyranny in many oppressive countries. Many countries have even banned social networks. This new technology will ensure countries can't maintain those sort of bans.

Alex Halderman (pictured at left), an assistant professor of computer science at the University of Michigan, is one of the developers of the software. In a recent interview he explained that people living under Internet censorship are already able to connect to third-party servers outside their country, but that it doesn’t take long for the government to find these servers and block them. Telex, on the other hand, turns the entire internet into an anti-censorship device.

I anxiously await other future technology that will ensure our freedom from tyranny.

You have too much faith in people

You know you are saying this to a guy who has almost no faith whatsoever in government officials, right?

I have faith in incentives, and government doesn't create good incentives.

I would disagree with the "combating tyranny" thing since many will just do what everyone else is doing while ignoring who is leading. People are stupid

how does a dependence on technology enhance your chances of escaping government tyranny?

social networks still require massive complexes filled to the rafters with servers, those servers are, for all intents and purposes, mechanical devices and thus vulnerable to attack.

So China is going to nuke server farms in the US? I guess there is the possibility that a one world government arises and crushes all opposition.

you don't get it, do you? an over-reliance on electronic gimgackery is a weakness, not a strength.

why do you think there is all this fear over EMP devices and why the government is working hard to harden it's networks against an EMP attack?

First of all, I don't understand this statement. How is it a weakness? If we weren't reliant on it, then it would mean we don't have it. If an EMP device destroys it, it just means we are back to square one, not worse off. It can only be considered a strength that we have a possibility of losing.

Second, sure EMP attacks can happen, but I'm willing to bet innovators can come up with something to protect us from EMP's.

I personally stopped an EMP attack on the US in Bad Company 2. You're welcome.
